  • Patent number: 11965207
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods to detect an amount of DNA that originates from cells of a given type, where the sample comprising such DNA in admixture with DNA that does not originate from such cells. Such methods are based on differential methylation, at certain regions, of the DNA that originates from the given type of cells compared to the admixed DNA. Such methods have particular application in the detection, from a biological fluid from a pregnant female, of cell free DNA that originates from a foetus or the placenta of a foetus, or the detection, from a biological fluid from an individual, of cell free DNA that originates from cells of a tumour.

  • Patent number: 11753684
Abstract: Methods for detecting a chromosomal aneuploidy in a foetus carried by a pregnant female are provided. Such methods are based on one or more of particular configurations and/or detections and/or analyses of two or more regions of DNA, including those that show differential methylation between DNA that originates from cells of a foetus (and/or the placenta of a foetus) and DNA of maternal origin. Such methods utilise a sample taken from a pregnant female, which sample comprises DNA that originates from cells of a foetus and/or the placenta of a foetus in admixture with differently methylated DNA of maternal origin. Such methods have diagnostic, prognostic and/or predictive utility; in particular for the detection/diagnosis of chromosomal aneuploidy, such as a trisomy, in a foetus, and/or for detecting an increased risk of a pregnant female suffering from or developing a pregnancy-associated medical condition.

  • Patent number: 9584931
Abstract: A method of sensing vibrations in the middle ear is presented. The method includes implanting a transducer in the middle ear. The transducer measures vibration, within a predetermined frequency range, of at least one component of the middle ear. The transducer has a resonance frequency within the predetermined frequency range, and further has a limited frequency response in a portion of the frequency range. The implanting includes operatively coupling the implant to the at least one component of the middle ear such that the limited frequency response of the transducer is complimentary to, and compensated by, the frequency characteristics of the at least one component of the middle ear.

  • Publication number: 20130147313
Abstract: The invention presents a method for producing microstructured apparatuses for microelectromechanical systems (MEMS). In order to increase the maximum aspect ratio conditioned by physical or chemical microstructuring methods, it is proposed to design flat elements of the apparatus, which are structured such that they are movable relative to one another, to be laterally changeable from a first reference position relative to one another (structuring position) to a second reference position (operating position) in a permanent or irreversible manner. As a result, higher trench capacitances can be formed between structured wall sections. The reference position can be changed by means of integrated drives or by supplying energy from the outside and said change is effected in a direction which is substantially different from the measuring direction.

  • Patent number: 7654290
Abstract: A method for transporting the weft thread through the shed of an air-jet weaving machine having a nozzle fed with a flowing transportation medium, wherein the portion, changeable along the weft thread, of the natural thread charges arranged irregularly on the weft thread is contactlessly registered by means of an electrode array, wherein the changing total charge is determined on the electrode array, wherein the periodic change in the total charge is evaluated for determining the axial velocity of the weft thread, and wherein the nozzle of the weaving machine is controlled as a function of the axial velocity of the weft.
