  • Publication number: 20240165967
Abstract: A method of curing UV inkjet ink in a printing machine includes two curing steps. In a first step, the inkjet ink is irradiated at high radiation power for a short irradiation time to pin the ink. In a second step, the pinned UV inkjet ink is irradiated with UV radiation of lower radiation power for a longer irradiation time to finally cure the ink. The light sources are UV light-emitting diodes or flash lamps whose radiation powers are modified by optical focusing or different electrical actuation. The process results in cured printed products of high quality.

  • Patent number: 11890861
Abstract: A method of curing radiation-curable coatings in printing machines using UV light includes using the same light source or sources for the pinning and final curing operations in two different modes of operation suitable for pinning and for completely curing. The light sources are preferably gas-discharge lamps, in particular xenon flash lamps. A printing machine and a method for using at least one gas-discharge lamp are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20230001713
Abstract: A device cures a UV-curable fluid, such as offset or inkjet printing ink, on a substrate by way of an emitter. The emitter includes at least two flash lamps which are disposed in a row. This provides a cost-efficient way of evenly and homogeneously curing UV-curable printing fluids at low environmental impact. There is also described a printing machine with a device for curing UV-curable printing ink.

  • Patent number: 10391783
Abstract: In a method for operating an inkjet printing machine, a condition of an ink is determined. A sedimentation and/or agglomeration of a pigmented ink is determined by refractometry, i.e. the value of the refractive index of the ink is measured with a refractometer and compared with a stored value with computer assistance.

  • Patent number: 10252552
Abstract: A method for printing at least one section of a flat or preferably curved surface of an object includes using a relative movement between an inkjet head and the object to move the inkjet head along a first path and print a first track in the process and to move the inkjet head along a second path and print a second track in the process. A first track edge of the first track and a second track edge of the second track meet at a point and enclose an angle between about 1° and about 179° at the point. The method permits the curved surface to be printed without perceptible track connections.

  • Patent number: 9943888
Abstract: A method for removing solidified ink or varnish from a surface includes applying a cleaning agent to the ink on the surface. The cleaning agent applied to the ink on the surface is substantially solvent-free and water-based and reduces adhesion between the ink and the surface without dissolving the ink. An adhesive side or face of a single-sided or single face adhesive element is applied to the surface. As the adhesive element is removed from the surface, the ink that has been treated with the cleaning agent but is undissolved adheres to the adhesive element and is thus removed from the surface together with the adhesive element without splitting.

  • Patent number: 8276512
Abstract: A process for treating an imaged printing form, in particular a printing form covered with amphiphilic molecules or with polymers, such as saccharides, includes applying a gum, in particular a microscopic gum layer, to the surface of the printing form in the liquid state. The gum is removed or reduced down to a remaining nanoscopic covering after a short or negligible time interval, relative to the time interval until the application of lithographic liquid, for example dampening solution or printing ink, to the surface. The removal or reduction of the gum is preferably carried out in the still liquid state, i.e. before the applied gum dries on, and preferably immediately after the application. The remaining gum covering protects the printing form against contaminants and increases its hydrophily/hydrophoby contrast. An apparatus for treating an imaged printing form, a re-imageable printing form and a machine for processing printing material, are also provided.

  • Patent number: 8256347
Abstract: A reusable printing form is treated after printing. The printing form has a substrate provided with amphiphilic molecules and it is cleaned to remove printing ink and provided with amphiphilic molecules, for fresh printing in the course of a reimaging process. Here, the printing form is provided with amphiphilic molecules in the course of the reimaging process substantially before cleaning to remove the printing ink.

  • Publication number: 20110104394
Abstract: A process for the permanent multicolor painting of a product, e.g. a body part, includes defining a first region, a first location within the first region and a second location within the first region but different from the first location, on the surface of the product. The surface is provided with a first release layer, at least in the first region and the first release layer is exposed to electromagnetic radiation, e.g. IR radiation, at the first location but not at the second location. The surface is provided with a first layer of paint at least at the first location. The first layer of paint is fixed, at least at the first location. Alternatively, the first release layer is applied at least at the second location but not at the first location, so that an exposure to electromagnetic energy at the first location can be omitted.
