  • Patent number: 10233771
Abstract: In accordance with one aspect of the present technique a method includes receiving at least one of a speed and an acceleration of a rotating component in a rotating machine. The method includes determining whether at least one of the speed and the acceleration of the rotating component exceeds a non-trip operating (NTO) space in a speed-acceleration plane, wherein the NTO space is based on a trip overshoot model. The method further includes sending a notification for tripping the rotating machine in response to determining that at least one of the speed and the acceleration of the rotating component exceeds the NTO space.

  • Patent number: 9784241
Abstract: A wind turbine includes a rotor, a plurality of rotor blades coupled to the rotor, and a blade pitch control system coupled to each rotor blade. A computer-implemented method for controlling the wind turbine includes determining at least one pitch position for a first blade. The method also includes determining whether there is a malfunction of the blade pitch control system associated with the first blade. The method further includes predicting a rotor imbalance using a model of at least a portion of the wind turbine. The method also includes comparing the predicted rotor imbalance with a predetermined threshold value. The method further includes one of regulating the pitch position for the second blade such that the predicted rotor imbalance is restored to a value below the predetermined threshold and regulating a pitch position for a second blade such that the predicted rotor imbalance does not exceed the predetermined threshold.

Date of Patent: October 10, 2017
    Assignee: General Electric Company
Inventors: Rogier Sebastiaan Blom, Matthijs Leonardus Gerardus Boerlage, Nora Cheng-Huei Han
  • Patent number: 9644608
Abstract: A method and system for shutting down a wind turbine is presented. The method includes determining one or more pitch positions for one or more rotor blades of the wind turbine such that a sum of potential energy and kinetic energy in the wind turbine is minimized. The method further includes pitching the one or more rotor blades from an operating position to the determined pitch positions.

  • Publication number: 20150159561
Abstract: A method of controlling purge flow in a gas turbomachine system includes detecting a fault condition in the gas turbomachine system, initiating a shutdown of the gas turbomachine system, introducing a purge flow into a gas turbine portion of the gas turbomachine system, categorizing the fault condition as one of a category one fault and a category two fault, and validating the purge flow if the fault condition is a category one fault and invalidating the purge flow if the fault condition is a category two fault.

  • Patent number: 8240991
Abstract: A method, system and computer program product for operating a wind turbine is disclosed. For operating the wind turbine a set of operational data points are sensed via a sensing module. The set of operational data points may include bending stress values. Based on the bending stress values, a load scenario indicator value may be computed. Further, based on the set of operational data points a loading threshold value may be obtained. At least one operating parameter of the wind turbine is changed if the load scenario indicator value exceeds the loading threshold.
