Abstract: The present invention describes a method for locating a user on an irregular map, such as for example on an outdoor map, slope map of a downhill skiing centre or other map having an irregular scale. In the method, points on the irregular map are bound as reference points by determining the actual location of the points. Then the location of the user on the map can be calculated on the base of the actual coordinates of the user's location by utilizing the reference points.

Abstract: A method for distributing map material in situations where there are many different kinds of maps of the area. The location of the user of a terminal device is positioned by a positioning method and the maps presented to the user are then selected based on the location. The user selects one or more of the maps for a closer review and loads the selected maps on the terminal device. Then, the user may be directed by the navigation function of the terminal device.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method and apparatus for measuring usage of system resources in a communication network. The apparatus includes devices for measuring radio resources, data service units and transmission characteristics in the system. The devices for measuring are adapted for performing a respective collective measurement. The method includes collectively measuring transmission parameters including radio resources, data service units and transmission characteristics. The method provides for dimensioning system resources according to transmission demand in the network.

Abstract: In the present invention, a measuring device is proposed for measuring system resources which are used by a communication connection in a telecommunication network, said device comprising: means for receiving a request of allocation of system resources to establish said connection, said request indicating a preferred level of said resources, examining means (1) for examining parameters (BCIE1) indicating said requested resources, allocating means (3) for allocating, on the basis of the examination by said examining means (1), available resources indicated by parameters (BCIE2) of the communication network to the communication connection, and comparing means (4) for comparing the level of the requested resources (BCIE1) and the level of the resources allocated by the communication network (BCIE2). Furthermore, a corresponding measuring method is proposed. Using the present invention allows a operator to obtain improved knowledge of system resources.
