  • Publication number: 20100300793
Abstract: A pedestrian-protecting air bag arrangement is disclosed for a motor vehicle having a bonnet pivoted at a forward end for pivoting upwardly and forwardly. The arrangement comprises an air bag located beneath the bonnet adjacent a rear end thereof, and designed, in its deployed state, to extend across the width of the vehicle windscreen and upwardly at least partially over the windscreen, the air bag comprising a central region and lateral wings on either side of the central region.

  • Patent number: 7823959
Abstract: The present invention relates to a pedestrian safety structure for a motor vehicle body having a soft-nose outer skin panel and a bonnet providing an overlying structure for a grille opening reinforcing front cross member. The grille opening reinforcing front cross member carries a plurality of brackets. The brackets are designed to support loads distributed thereupon by the overlying structure, vertical (Z) loads in the range of 1.0-1.5 kN and longitudinal (X) loads in the range of 0.4-0.6 kN. The brackets are further designed for energy absorbing deformation when subjected to longitudinal (X) loads distributed thereupon by the overlying structure above 0.6 kN, such that the plurality of brackets provide an energy absorbing upper leg impact zone for the protection of pedestrians in the event of a collision with the motor vehicle.

  • Patent number: 7597384
Abstract: A hood latch structure (1) for a motor vehicle body having a soft-nose outer skin panel (2) and a hood (3) providing an overlying structure for a grille opening reinforcing front cross member (4). The grille opening reinforcing front cross member (4) supports at least one hood latch (5) carried by a mounting member (6) protruding towards the front of the vehicle. Mounting member (6) is designed to collapse downwards (Z) causing the hood latch (5) to move downwards (Z) when subjected to longitudinal (X) loads above a predetermined threshold load distributed thereupon by the overlying structure such that the hood latch (5) moves away to provide a forgiving upper leg impact zone for the protection of pedestrians in the event of a collision with the motor vehicle.

  • Patent number: 7575273
Abstract: A bonnet bumpstop for use on an automotive vehicle is formed with a first component having a support part for supporting a bonnet on the vehicle in the vertical direction during normal operation when the bonnet is closed against the automotive frame, a second component attachable to the vehicle frame, and a member interconnecting the first and second components to each other. When the bonnet bumpstop incurs a force greater than a predetermined value, such as a force transmitted from a bonnet to the bonnet bumpstop, the bonnet bumpstop is collapsible by substantially instantaneous neutralizing of the interconnection between the first component and the second component. At least a part of the first component, including said support part, is then freed to be move relative to the second component so as to allow the bonnet to move downwardly in case of an impact between an object and the bonnet.

  • Publication number: 20090178872
Abstract: The present invention relates to a bonnet for motor vehicles having an outer skin panel and an inner reinforcing panel comprising reinforcing structures. The inner reinforcing panel is connected with said outer skin panel and imparts rigidity thereto. Along a bonnet leading edge the inner reinforcing panel is provided with a plurality of deformation guide structures, providing a deformable upper leg impact zone for the protection of pedestrians in the event of a collision with the motor vehicle.

  • Patent number: 7497508
Abstract: A bonnet for an automotive vehicle has a leading end, a trailing end, and a lock striker for locking the free end of the bonnet to the vehicle body during normal operation when the bonnet is closed. The lock striker is spaced from the bonnet portion by a mounting mechanism that includes at least one elongated arm extending between the inside of the bonnet portion and the lock striker. At least one portion of the elongated arm is weakened to permit relative pivoting of the bonnet portion and the lock striker around a geometrical axis when the elongated arm is loaded in excess of a predetermined value. The bonnet is thus allowed to move downwardly in the event of an impact between a pedestrian and the bonnet portion.

  • Patent number: 7416241
Abstract: A grille and bonnet assembly is mounted at the forward end of an automotive vehicle. The bonnet is formed with a leading edge and a trailing edge with the leading edge positioned above or at an upper edge of the grille during normal operation of the automotive vehicle when the bonnet is closed. The grille and bonnet are designed with corresponding inclined surfaces that are located relative to each other such that a force greater than a predetermined value transmitted from the bonnet to the grille forces at least the upper part of the grille to move forwardly so as to allow the bonnet to move downwardly. Such yielding movement of the grille and bonnet can reduce injuries in the event of an impact between a pedestrian and the bonnet of the automotive vehicle.

  • Publication number: 20050225102
Abstract: A bumper device for use with a vehicle, which bumper device provides a contact zone between the bumper device and a foreign body during impact between a vehicle and such a foreign body. The bumper device comprises a housing, and the housing accommodates an elongated free body arranged to build up a major part of the force arising in the contact zone during impact by means of the mass-moment of inertia of the bumper device.

  • Patent number: 6865233
Abstract: Control signalling for systems employing link adaptation and incremental redundancy is described. A link adaptation/incremental redundancy message can be transmitted from a receiving entity to a transmitting entity to inform the transmitting entity of the receiving entity's incremental redundancy status or preference. Another message, which indicates whether resegmentation should be performed for retransmitted blocks can also be transmitted from a receiving entity to a transmitting entity. Both of these messages can be used by the transmitting entity to determine an appropriate modulation/coding scheme for subsequent transmissions of both original data blocks and retransmitted data blocks. The messages can be used together or independently in either link (uplink or downlink) between a base station and a mobile station in a radiocommunication system.

  • Patent number: 6367045
Abstract: A method and technique are provided for efficiently acknowledging transmitted information in a system that employs variable rate data transmission, and skips data block sequence numbers depending on the transmission rate used. An RBB field in an ACK/NACK message includes a starting sequence number, an indication of a sequence number step, and a bitmap. The starting sequence number indicates a first block in a series or sequence of transmitted blocks that are being acknowledged via the ACK/NACK message. The sequence number step indicates a minimum difference between sequence numbers of blocks in the sequence. Where the sequence is ordered, the sequence number step is a difference between the sequence numbers of adjacent or consecutive blocks in the series. The bitmap is configured so that each bit in the bitmap represents an acknowledgment of one of blocks in the series.
