  • Patent number: 8024993
Abstract: A bicycle component is provided comprising an elongated body consisting of structural fibers incorporated in a matrix of polymeric material and having, in an end part thereof, a seat for the mechanical coupling of the component with an element of the bicycle. Also provided in the zone between the seat and the end of the body is a continuous layer of structural fibers which surround the seat and which ensure mechanical continuity in the aforementioned zone. The central part of the component comprises at least one first layer formed of continuous structural fibers incorporated in a matrix of polymeric material and at least one second layer formed of small pieces of structural fibers incorporated in a matrix of polymeric material and arranged randomly inside the layer, such layers overlapping each other.

  • Publication number: 20100104847
Abstract: A sheet compound (1) is disclosed, comprising a first group of conglomerates (3) of fibre segments (5) and a matrix (6) of polymeric material, the conglomerates (3) of the first group having a random orientation, and at least one second group of conglomerates (4) of fibre segments (5) and a matrix (6) of polymeric material, the conglomerates (4) of the second group having a prevailing orientation of a direction of maximum tensile strength (FR) thereof along a respective predetermined direction (FB) in said geometric plane (P), said at least one second group of conglomerates (4) being distinguishable from the first group of conglomerates (3) by at least one characteristic other than orientation. A process and an installation for making such a material, as well as a moulded object made from such a material are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20080054715
Abstract: The wheel hub of a bicycle is made of a single part of structural fiber based material, typically carbon fiber material, after reticulation in a mould which exploits the expansion of a core to obtain the application of a radial pressure to the tubular body consisting of layers of structural fiber based.

  • Publication number: 20070199403
Abstract: A bicycle pedal crank has an elongated body and a first end portion with a first seat for coupling with a bottom bracket of the bicycle, a second end portion with a second seat for coupling with a pedal, and an intermediate portion extending between the first end portion and said second end portion and having an inner portion substantially without structural strength and a first reinforcement structure. The first reinforcement structure has a tubular structure arranged around said inner portion and extending longitudinally not longer than the longitudinal extension of the intermediate portion. The extension of the tubular element is limited to the intermediate portion of the pedal crank. The crank may be manufactured in a simple, quick way in a completely automated manner, using a filling material molded under high pressure.

  • Publication number: 20070186719
Abstract: A bicycle crank arm has an elongated body and a first end portion with a first seat for coupling with a bicycle bottom bracket assembly, a second end portion with a second seat for coupling with a pedal, an intermediate portion extending between the first and second end portions and having an inner portion without structural strength, and a first reinforcement structure and a second reinforcement structure facing the inner portion and the first reinforcement structure and having at least one bundle of structural fibers having at least in part a first orientation. The intermediate portion has a section in which the inner portion occupies a space defined by a first area having a first surface extension and by a second area having a second surface extension and in which the second reinforcement structure occupies a space having a surface extension equal to the difference between the first and second areas.

  • Publication number: 20070034043
Abstract: A bicycle component is made of composite material provided with at least one insert for coupling with another bicycle component, as well as a process for its manufacture. Before the molding process of the composite material, between the insert and the composite material an adhesive is applied. The adhesive is partially interpenetrated with the composite material. A high adhesion between the insert and the bicycle component is obtained.

  • Publication number: 20060283288
Abstract: An insert for a bicycle component has a body with an outer surface for the coupling with the bicycle component. The outer surface has at least one first element that provides a first response to an attempt of relative rotation movement between the bicycle component and the body of the insert and at least one second element that provides a contrasting response to the attempt of relative rotation movement. For example, the elements that provide at least contrasting responses can have two opposite threadings that extend on the outer surface of the body in two opposite halves thereof. Advantageously, such opposite threadings prevent, during travel, any possibility of mutual sliding between body of the insert and body of the bicycle component that incorporates the insert, thus avoiding deterioration of the insert-bicycle component coupling.
