Patents by Inventor Maurice A. S. Stephenson

Maurice A. S. Stephenson has filed for patents to protect the following inventions. This listing includes patent applications that are pending as well as patents that have already been granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

  • Patent number: 5356987
Abstract: In an improved method of curing a topcoat coating composition, at least a portion of the curing catalyst for the topcoat is contained in the basecoat composition. After applying the topcoat, the curing catalyst in the basecoat migrates to the topcoat, where it contributes to the curing the topcoat. Improved intercoat adhesion is obtained. In addition, the disclosed method enables the use of one package silane coating systems.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 11, 1992
Date of Patent: October 18, 1994
Assignee: E. I. Du Pont de Nemours and Company
    Inventor: Maurice A. S. Stephenson
  • Patent number: 5230962
Abstract: A coating composition is disclosed comprising an acrylosilane polymer, an acrylic polyol, a polyester urethane or a copolymer thereof, an amino resin crosslinking agent, and a silsesquioxane compound. Such a composition is especially useful for providing a finish on metallic and/or non-metallic parts of automobiles and trucks. This finish has the advantage of superior etch resistance and outstanding weatherability and durability characteristics.

  • Patent number: 5182174
Abstract: A coating composition is disclosed comprising an organosilane polymer, a polyester or a copolymer thereof, an amino resin crosslinking agent, and a silsesquioxane compound. Such a composition is especially useful for providing a flexible finish on non-metallic parts of automobiles and trucks. This finish has the advantage of superior etch resistance and outstanding weatherability and durability characteristics.

  • Patent number: H1279
Abstract: Improved curing catalysts are disclosed for use in a coating composition containing a film-forming organosilane polymer. The catalysts can cure hydrolytically stable compositions, which do not prematurely gell by moisture. The coating composition can be used as a one package clearcoat over a conventional pigmented basecoat, or as a basecoat, monocoat or primer when a suitable amount of pigment is incorporated therein. The coating composition provides improved properties, including increased chemical etch resistance.
