  • Patent number: 5370676
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for application of hyperthermia in a particular body using microwaves. The device comprises a wire antenna (1) supplied with microwave energy or, upon switching, acting as a radiometric probe, a sleeve (2) enabling the wire antenna to be thermostatted and a Foley-type catheter (3) removably mounted so as to encompass the assembly thus constituted, the catheter enabling this assembly to be positioned in relation to an opening for insertion into the particular body and being the sole disposable part in order to ensure good hygiene of the hyperthermia session. A connection module (4) allows the interconnection both of the wire antenna, from the radio-frequency point of view, and of the sleeve and the catheter, from the hydraulic point of view. Application to thermotherapy or to the thermal treatment of certain bodies is thus provided.

  • Patent number: 5354325
Abstract: A system for internal heat treatment of specific bodies by microwave including a generator 1 of microwave energy at a frequency f0, at least one channel for transmission of the microwave energy, each channel making it possible to generate a modulated microwave treatment signal, the wave of the microwave energy of two consecutive channels exhibiting a phase shift of defined value. At least one microwave applicator is associated with one of the channels in order to ensure application of the microwave energy delivered by this channel at separate adjacent points of the area Z to be treated, and a dual-temperature-reference radiometer is interconnected selectively to the applicator which then plays the role of temperature sensor, the absolute temperature of the adjacent point of the area Z to be treated being thus determined. The microwave powers radiated and the instantaneous temperatures of the separate points of the area Z to be treated are displayed.

  • Patent number: 5176146
Abstract: The device comprises a microwave detector, a short-circuit microwave, a first modulator, or microwave-switch, a circulator with three successive channels, at least two sources of internal reference temperatures, a second modulator or microwave-switch, possibly an attenuator, a synchronization command circuit acting both on the first modulator and on the second modulator to obtain at least four different successive outgoing signals, a microwave detector, advantageously a microwave amplifier, and a calculator connected to the output of synchronization command circuit, said at least four successive signals being detected to deduce therefrom the temperature at the detector level, independently of the coefficient of reflection of the detector with respect to the region of the losses and of the modulators and of the cables.

  • Patent number: 4605012
Abstract: An applicator for supplying radio-frequency energy (rf energy) to or from a high-loss material, preferably live tissue, to which a delimiting face of the applicator is to be applied in flat relationship, a double line being provided for transporting the energy, is characterized in that at least one conductor (3) of the double line extends substantially in parallel to the delimiting face and at least in its proximity. An applicator of this type is easy to produce (FIG. 1).

  • Patent number: 4583869
Abstract: To measure the temperature of a sub-surface volume of a body, for example, living tissue, in microwaves, at least two probes are placed on or near the surface of the body to pick up thermal noise in the microwave range. The two probes are positioned so that the volumes of the body from which the respective probes receive thermal noise signals overlap to provide a common volume from which both of the probes receive thermal noise signals. The signals received by the probes are processed so as to be amplified and to accentuate the signals emitted by the common volume relative to the signals omitted by the remainder of the volumes from which the probes receive thermal noise signals. In one form of apparatus, the two probes are connected in parallel to a correlator the output of which is connected to an amplifier-receiver. In another form of apparatus the probes are connected to an amplifier-receiver, one being connected through a phase shifter.
