  • Patent number: 4643461
Abstract: A seal assembly for incorporation into a pipe coupling has a fire-ring which is adapted to seal against the juxtaposed ends of pipes and provide a substantial seal between the pipe ends in the event that the body of the elastomeric seal is subjected of thermal destruction.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 20, 1985
Date of Patent: February 17, 1987
    Assignee: Victaulic Company of America
Inventors: Lawrence W. Thau, Jr., Maurice J. Webb
  • Patent number: 4601495
Abstract: A method of assembling a pipeline system and the pipeline system resulting therefrom involves providing pipes and associated conduit members with plural axially spaced key engagement members adjacent the ends thereof, and securing adjacent ends of the pipes and conduit members to each other using segmented couplings having plural axially spaced keys corresponding with the key engagement members, the engagement surfaces of the keys having an inversely pebbled surface produced in the casting of the segments of the coupling and which is intentionally left unfinished, such that pressurization of the pipeline system and the axial loading produced thereby will cause the inversely pebbled surfaces of the respective keys to crush down and cold work the engaged faces of the engagement members to progressively produce substantially uniform stress distribution between the respective keys and engagement members.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 7, 1985
Date of Patent: July 22, 1986
    Assignee: Victaulic Company of America

  • Patent number: 4522434
Abstract: Segments of a coupling for use in a high-pressure piping system are provided with cast multiple keys in their as cast condition, and which are for reception within corresponding plural or multiple grooves in pipe ends, crushing of the operative faces of the keys and cold working of the faces of the pipe grooves in engagement therewith providing for equalization of the axial loading imposed on the respective keys.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 4166607
Abstract: An improved bellows valve is disclosed having a relatively long bellows attached at one end to the valve control stem and at its other end to a recessed bellows mounting in the valve bonnet. The recessed attachment permits the use of a relatively long bellows with a valve bonnet of minimal size and mass and permits a wide valve opening with a relatively small valve port. Such a small valve port requires a low closing force for the stem and the use of a wide opening resists clogging. An anti-torque member connected between the valve bonnet and the valve stem prevents stem rotation to isolate the bellows from undesirble rotation during the axial stem and bellows movement.
