  • Patent number: 6027412
Abstract: A bowling ball includes an inner weight block surrounded by the bowling ball shell. The weight block has a body, head and tip portions. The central x axis for the body is offset from the X axis of the ball, while the centered x axes for the head and tip portions are aligned with the X axis of the ball. A ball with such a construction exhibits increased torque which manifests itself as a sharp hook deep into the roll, while the initial trajectory is relatively straight.

  • Patent number: 5389042
Abstract: A two-piece bowling ball includes a non-symmetrical weight block or core to provide improved and increased rotation inertia. The block consists of head, body and tip portions. The block is asymmetric in plan, the asymmetry being the result of truncation of a plan-symmetric form of the block by a plane extending through the block at an angle of less than 90 degrees to the vertical, removing less than 50% of the plan-symmetric block mass. The untruncated form of the head is a spherical segment of one base having its spherical surface concentric with the surface of the ball. The non-truncated body is in the form of a cylinder or parallelepiped, while the tip in its untruncated form is of a shape having a maximum diameter no greater than that of the body whose diameter is no greater than that of the head. The tip is further chosen such that overall top eccentricity after truncation does not exceed three ounces in accordance with ABC guidelines.

  • Patent number: 5215304
Abstract: A two-piece bowling ball includes a weight block or core to provide improved and increased rotational inertia positioned within an surrounded by a shell of a different density. The block consists of head, body and tip portions, the head being in the form of a spherical segment of one base having its spherical surface concentric with the surface of the ball and spaced no more than about 1.5 inches from the ball surface. The body is in the form of a cylinder or parallelepiped, while the tip is of a shape having a maximum diameter no greater than that of the body whose diameter is no greater than that of the head. The block is mounted within the ball such that its longitudinal axis is generally aligned with the geometric center of the ball. The tip is chosen such that overall top eccentricity does not exceed three ounces in accordance with ABC guidelines.

  • Patent number: 5037096
Abstract: A bowling ball weight block consists of body, tip and head portions, the tip and head portions being located on opposed ends of the body. The body portion is in the form of a cylinder or parallelepiped, the head is in the form of a spherical segment or frustum of a pyramid, and the tip is in the form of a frustum of a pyramid, or cone. The head and tip portions are chosen such that the mass of the tip is not greater than the mass of the head. By utilizing different masses and/or dimensions for the head and tip portions, an asymmetrical weight distribution about the roll axis of the ball can be developed. The weight block exhibits distinct roll characteristics depending on whether it is positioned within a ball in a head-up or tip-up orientation with respect to the ball label.
