  • Patent number: 9687997
Abstract: A tooth is provided for a circular disc felling saw. The saw tooth may have a generally square pyramidal shape with tips at each of the four corners. Each of the tips has an enlarged tip region where the tip is stepped outward from the adjacent sides. The front face of the tip remains smoothly continuous. The enlarged, or built-out region extends rearwardly a greater distance than the lateral step out distance, and the rearward build-out portion is relieved on planes parallel to the main portions of the planar sides of the pyramid. The tooth may have both leading and trailing cutting tips. Either one or both of the primary and secondary cutting tips may include a wear insert, such as a ceramic wear insert.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 1, 2012
Date of Patent: June 27, 2017
    Inventor: Maurice Micacchi
  • Publication number: 20130199353
Abstract: A tooth is provided for a circular disc felling saw. When installed on a saw blade, the tooth has both leading and trailing cutting tips that cut the tree. The cutting discharge of the trailing cutting tips may tend to wear the rearward flank of the leading cutting tips. Either one or both of the primary and secondary cutting tips may include a wear insert, such as a ceramic wear insert.

  • Patent number: 6176280
Abstract: A disc saw felling head has the cutting pocket positioned relative to the tooth entry opening into the housing such that chips being thrown out of the kerf by the teeth are thrown radially outwardly of the entry opening. The chips are thrown against a deflector plate which redirects them back toward the center but away from the disc to dissipate energy in the chips, reduce the directions in which chips are thrown, and reduce clogging of the housing.
