Publication number: 20250085430Abstract: Systems and techniques are provided for detecting a translucent matter based on light detection and ranging (LIDAR) returns. An example method can include receiving at least two LIDAR returns associated with a LIDAR beam transmitted by a LIDAR device. The two LIDAR returns include a primary return comprising a first portion of the LIDAR beam reflected from a matter and a secondary return comprising a second portion of the LIDAR beam reflected from additional matter. The example method can further include determining a distance difference between a first position of the matter along the first path and a second position of the additional matter along the second path, comparing the distance difference with a threshold, and based on the comparison between the distance difference and the threshold, determining whether the additional matter is a non-translucent matter or a translucent matter.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 13, 2023Publication date: March 13, 2025Inventors: Mauricio Flores Rios, Cheng-An Hou, Xianming Liu, Sijia Chen

Patent number: 11869071Abstract: Disclosed is an example approach in which news alerts are scanned in real-time or near real-time, relevant alerts identified through a topic extraction model, and associated actors identified through an entity extraction model. An entity resolution model may be applied to determine which actors are clients. The topic extraction, entity extraction, and/or entity resolution models may apply, for example, natural language processing models. The alert may be enriched by being packaged with client and transactional data to generate an enriched alert. A predictive model may be applied to the enriched alert to identify events with a high probability of law enforcement referral, and the enriched alert may be automatically transmitted to certain identified devices. The predictive model is trained using a combination of news alerts and data on clients and transactions, yielding enhanced predictions.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 2019Date of Patent: January 9, 2024Assignee: Wells Fargo Bank, N.A.Inventors: Angelica Bullard, Mauricio Flores, Ian Kloville, Jeremy Norvell, Sameer Shetty, Michael Traverso

Patent number: 10601461Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for integrated antennas in vehicles and corresponding techniques for use in connection with location determination and wireless communication protocols. Example methods may include determining a condition associated with a vehicle; and determining, based on the condition, to switch from a first antenna associated with wireless communication, or a second antenna associated with location determination, to a backup antenna associated with the vehicle. Moreover, the backup antenna may have a wireless communication capability and a location determination capability.Type: GrantFiled: February 19, 2019Date of Patent: March 24, 2020Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLCInventors: Eric Eaton, Gabriel Solana, Mauricio Flores

Publication number: 20150192003Abstract: A method for enhanced oil recovery using cyclic steam stimulation (CSS) and electromagnetic heating (EMH). One or more CSS cycles are conducted on a subsurface hydrocarbon reservoir in order to dilate the reservoir and improve permeability, followed by EMH application for thermal recovery of the hydrocarbon to surface. The alternating process can be repeated as desired while economically viable. The method is particularly applicable to produce heavy hydrocarbons such as bitumen or heavy oil from a heterogeneous reservoir that has low permeability.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 26, 2014Publication date: July 9, 2015Inventors: Carlos Mauricio Flores, Loran Taabbodi, Amin Saeedfar, Barbara McCarthy

Patent number: 5703600Abstract: A microstrip antenna (10) comprises a planar antenna radiating element (12) having at least a first major surface and a ground plane having a first major surface (16), a second major surface (18), and a third major surface (20) substantially parallel to each other. A dielectric material (14) is positioned between the planar antenna radiating element and the ground plane. The microstrip antenna further includes a first gap (36) between the first major surface (18) of the ground plane and the second major surface (16) of the ground plane and a second gap (72) between the second major surface (16) of the ground plane and the third major surface (20) of the ground plane, wherein the first and second gaps create an increased impedance bandwidth and a lower operating frequency antenna.Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 1996Date of Patent: December 30, 1997Assignee: Motorola, Inc.Inventors: Dennis A. Burrell, James Talmage Davis, II, Mauricio Flores
