    Abstract: The present invention relates to a novel process for the preparation of 2,4,6-triiodoisophthalic bisamide derivatives, which are useful intermediates in the preparation of non-ionic X-ray contrast agents, starting from the corresponding acyl chloride intermediates which are amidated in a mixture of specific hydrotropic solvents in the presence of a low amount of water.
