  • Publication number: 20130063486
Abstract: A method includes generating a light pattern using a display panel and forming a virtual image from the light pattern utilizing one or more optical components. The virtual image is viewable from a viewing location. The method also includes receiving external light from a real-world environment incident on an optical sensor. The real-world environment is viewable from the viewing location. Further, the method includes obtaining an image of the real-world environment from the received external light, identifying a background feature in the image of the real-world environment over which the virtual image is overlaid, and extracting one or more visual characteristics of the background feature. Additionally, the method includes comparing the one or more visual characteristics to an upper threshold value and a lower threshold value and controlling the generation of the light pattern based on the comparison.

  • Patent number: 8384617
Abstract: Systems and methods for selecting an action associated with a power state transition of a head-mounted display (HMD) in the form of eyeglasses are disclosed. A signal may be received from a sensor on a nose bridge of the eyeglasses indicating if the HMD is in use. Based on the received signal, a first powers state for the HMD may be determined. Responsive to the determined first power state, an action associated with a power state transition of the HMD from an existing power state to the first power state may be selected. The action may be selected from among a plurality of actions associated with a plurality of state transitions. Also, the action may be a sequence of functions performed by the HMD including modifying an operating state of a primary processing component of the HMD and a detector of the HMD configured to image an environment.

  • Publication number: 20130002534
Abstract: Systems and methods for controlling a cursor on a display using a trackpad input device are disclosed. The systems and methods may be directed to controlling the cursor on a display separate from the trackpad input device, based on information identified about a motion of a trackpad input device or a computing device. A conversion factor may be determined to relate input to the trackpad input device with control of the cursor on the display in response to the input. The conversion factor can be adjusted when the motion information indicates that the trackpad input device or computing device is in motion. An input signal from an input to the trackpad input device may be smoothed by filtering out a mechanical vibration signal within the input signal. The input signal may also be smoothed by subtracting the absolute motion of the trackpad input device from the input signal.

  • Patent number: 7319175
Abstract: Catalysts such as antimony halides, which are useful in fluorination reactions involving hydrogen fluoride, may be reduced during the reaction and require regeneration. Regenerative oxidation is usually carried out by introducing elemental halogen, preferably fluorine or chlorine, into the reaction mixture. In accordance with the invention elemental halogen is prevented from coming into contact with starting materials or intermediate products which are reactive therewith. This is preferably achieved by withdrawing part of the reaction mixture from the reactor, mixing the withdrawn part with chlorine or fluorine in order to regenerate the catalyst, and thereafter returning the withdrawn part to the reactor.

  • Patent number: 7282120
Abstract: A method of producing alkanes containing chlorine by addition of chlorine to C—C double bonds or C—C triple bonds or by exchange of hydrogen for chlorine by contacting the starting compound in the gas or liquid phase with elemental chlorine and irradiating the reaction mixture with UV light having a wavelength of ??280 nm. In this way pentachloroethane can be produced from trichloroethylene, CFC-113 from HCFC-123 or HFC-133a, CFC-112a from HCFC-142b, or HCFC-123 from HCFC-133a. The method also is suitable for separating photochlorinatable impurities from HFC-365-mfc to obtain purified HFC-365-mfc. Advantages include high yields and excellent selectivity.
