  • Patent number: 4684053
Abstract: In a method of producing heavy plate of steel, a prematerial is hot-rolled in several passes. As the prematerial at least two slabs of the same steel quality are superposed so as to form a pack and are welded by roll-bonding and reduced in thickness.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 5, 1984
Date of Patent: August 4, 1987
    Assignee: Voest-Alpine Aktiengesellschaft
Inventors: Thorwald Fastner, Max Mayrhofer, Walter Taschner

  • Patent number: 4086105
Abstract: In a method of producing fine-grain sheet or plate, in particular fine-grain plate with a thickness of more than 50 mm, of austenitic steels by hot rolling billets or slabs in a number of passes, the mean velocity of the reduction in thickness (v in mm/min) achieved in a plurality of subsequent passes in dependence upon the ferrite content (f in %) of the steels is chosen in a manner that up to a ferrite content of 3.5%, the mean velocity of the reduction in thickness is more than 150 mm/min, and at a ferrite content of more than 3.5%, it is above a value given by the relationship v = 3.8 f.sup.2 - 60 f + 315, the deformation carried out in this manner amounting to at least 30%.

  • Patent number: 4015655
Abstract: A process and an apparatus for continuously casting strands of unkilled or semi-killed steel having a product of [%C] .times. [%O] that is less than 0.002, preferably less than 0.0015 due to deoxidizing prior to casting, a carbon content of between 0.02 and 0.20%, an Al content not exceeding 0.01% and a Si content not exceeding 0.05%, wherein the steel is cast from a tundish through a casting tube that is immersed in the mould and flush gas is introduced into the casting tube and moved on together with the steel which leaves said casting tube via two lateral, upwardly inclined openings. The ascending gas bubbles are deflected by means of a guiding plate and move through a gap formed between said guiding plate and the walls of said mould, flushing out CO-bubbles forming at the front of solidification and thus providing for an edge zone that is free from blow-holes.

  • Patent number: 3988177
Abstract: A method of producing cold rolled, silicon-alloyed electric sheets from a vacuum decarburized steel involves decarburizing and recrystallizing annealing of the sheets in a continuous furnace. The recrystallization behavior of the sheets is influenced in such a way that a coarse grain and low watt losses are achieved. In the vacuum decarburized melt a manganese content, lying between 0.25 and 0.80% by weight, is adjusted. The slab temperature prior to hot rolling is kept below a particular temperature that depends on the manganese content according to the equation ##EQU1## Hot rolling of the sheets is effected at a final rolling temperature lying above 840.degree. C and the decarburizing and recrystallizing annealing of the cold rolled sheet is carried out over a period of not more than 4 minutes, whereby the carbon content is reduced to less than 0.003% by weight.
