  • Patent number: 5996200
Abstract: A descaling device for slabs or strips in hot rolling mills includes nozzles fed by a pressurized water piston pump for directing water jets against the slab or strip for removing scale adhering to the surface of the slab or strip. At least one additional pressurized water piston pump is provided, wherein the piston pumps are connected in parallel and the pumps can be switched on and off separately. A second row of nozzles may be arranged in front of the nozzles at a distance which ensures that the water jets do not influence each other. The water pressure of the water supplied to the second row of nozzles is preferably lower than the water pressure supplied to the first row of nozzles.

  • Patent number: 4530224
Abstract: One or more positioning devices in the form of pneumatic-hydraulic cylinders can be connected to one or more carriers for pressing rollers and/or guide plates of a strip coiler. At least one of the pneumatic-hydraulic positioning devices is suspended from the top and has a hydraulic piston emerging from a hydraulic cylinder at its lower end for connection by a linkage of a respective carrier while the upper end of the hydraulic cylinder forms the piston in the pneumatic cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4404831
Abstract: A strip-guide assembly for a metal-strip coiler comprises a pressing roll or guide plate adapted to urge the strip into a coiled condition on a mandrel is provided with a four-pivot linkage actuated by a pneumatic/hydraulic positioning device. According to the invention, the latter device comprises a limited stroke pneumatic cylinder having a plunger portion which forms a cylinder for the hydraulically displaced piston whose rod is connected to the linkage, the pneumatic and hydraulic cylinders being independently pressurizable.
