  • Patent number: 3991238
Abstract: A process for dressing and providing leather with an antimicrobial finish is provided, which comprises treating the leather with aqueous preparations of (1) reaction products of (a) an epoxide that contains at least two epoxide groups in each molecule, (b) a fatty amine with 12 to 24 carbon atoms, (c) a dicarboxylic acid of the formulaHOOC(CH.sub.2).sub.y-1 COOH ,wherein y is an integer from 1 to 13, optionally (d) an anhydride of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid with at least 8 carbon atoms, of an aliphatic monocarboxylic acid with at least 2 carbon atoms, or of an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid with at least 4 carbon atoms, (e) an aliphatic diol with 2 to 21 carbon atoms and/or (f) a difunctional compound which differs from components (a), (c), (d) and (e), which reaction products have been reacted or mixed or reacted and mixed with (2) aminoplast precondensates which contain alkyl ether groups, and subsequently drying the treated leather at elevated temperature.

  • Patent number: 3972675
Abstract: A new process for dyeing furs and skins below 70.degree.C is provided, which process is carried out with aqueous dyebaths containing a dyestuff, up to 15 g per liter of the whole preparation of an organic non-ionizable oxo compound with only limited solubility in water and optionally an emulsifier for these compounds.According to this process furs and skins can be dyed in deep and level shades with a broad scope of dyestuffs without any pretreatments for improving the dye-receptivity of the substrates.

  • Patent number: 3951891
Abstract: New reaction products (1) of (a) epoxides, (b) fatty amines (c) dimerized and/or trimerized fatty acids and optionally of (d) anhydrides of aromatic or aliphatic dicarboxylic acids or of monocarboxylic acids, (e) aliphatic saturated dicarboxylic acids and/or (f) difunctional compounds and (2) aminoplast precondensates that contain alkyl ether groups are provided. The aminoplast precondensate is used in admixture with (1) or as a reaction component for the manufacture of (1) or is used as mixture and reaction component. The new products are useful for finishing fibrous materials e.g. as binding agents for nonwovens or dressing agents for leather. The so treated substrates additionally show antimicrobial properties.
