Abstract: Substituted pyrrolidin-2-ones of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents a phenyl or naphthyl radical that is unsubstituted or substituted by lower alkyl, lower alkloxy, halogen and/or trifluoromethyl, X.sub.1 represents lower alkylidene, X.sub.2 represents methylene, ethylene or oxoethylene and R.sub.2 represents hydrogen, lower alkyl or a radical of the formula ##STR2## wherein X.sub.4 represents lower alkylidene and R.sub.3 represents hydrogen or a phenyl or a phenyl naphthyl radical that is unsubstituted by lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, halogen and/or trifluoromethyl, and their pharmaceutically acceptable salts, have nootropic properties and can be used as nootropic active ingredients in medicaments. They are prepared, for example, by condensing with one another compounds of the formulae ##STR3## wherein Z.sub.1 represents a group of the formula --X.sub.1 --(.dbd.O)--Z.sub.3 (IIa) and Z.sub.2 represents hydrogen, or Z.sub.1 represents hydrogen and Z.sub.2 represents a group of the formula --C(.dbd.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method of lowering intraocular pressure by a topical application of 2-tert-butylamino-1-(3,5-diisobutyryloxyphenyl)-ethanol or an acid addition salt thereof onto the eye of a mammalian species including man, especially as a conservative and/or curative medical treatment of ocular hypertension and pathological states associated therewith, in the first line glaucoma. The invention also relates to ophthalmic preparations for the topical application comprising an effective amount of the above-identified compounds in combination with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, and a method for producing themselves by non-chemical means.

Abstract: 9-(2-A-3-R-propyl)-9,10-dihydro-9,10-ethano-anthracenes containing the nucleus of the formula ##STR1## wherein R denotes a secondary or tertiary amino group and A denotes a free, etherified or acylated hydroxyl group, their pharmaceutically acceptable salts are useful as psychotropics, especially as anti-depressants.
