  • Patent number: 7992423
Abstract: A feed-through module for an analyzer, such as a gas chromatograph. The feed-through module is adapted for connection to a plurality of tubes and for conveying fluids between the tubes and an enclosed volume of a housing of the analyzer. The feed-through module includes a connection structure threadably secured to the housing and a feed plate removably mounted to the connection structure. A plurality of connectors are secured to the feed plate. The connection structure and the feed plate cooperate to define a plurality of internal flow networks. Each flow network is operable to convey one of the fluids between one of the connectors and the enclosed volume of the housing. Within each flow network, a stream of fluid is split and then recombined.

  • Publication number: 20110188727
Abstract: A method and apparatus are described for the collection and interpretation of radiographic data from an object scanned by a suitable radiation source. A radiation detector system is provided that is detecting and collecting spectroscopically resolved information. An object is scanned from a plurality of perspectives, and the resultant data from each perspective resolved into at least three spectroscopic energy bands. For each such resolved spectroscopic energy band an image analysis is performed to derive depth slicing to produce a series of output datasets each comprising a 2-D dataset of intensity information resolved to a single energy band and depth slice.

  • Publication number: 20110189639
Abstract: A speed reading process formats and speed reads text, enhances reading speed and comprehension. Selected text is formatted in vertical columns of less than 4 cm wide and a pair of vertical scan bars facing the left of each column of selected text. Each group of scan words in any line of the column is selected to form a complete thought and the selected group is highlighted in a larger bolder type and in a different font from the remainder of the text. A plurality of scan line indicators are placed between the pair of vertical scan bars indicative of each line that has at least one scanned word and vertically scanning each other a group of scanned words in the column of text thereby reading only complete thoughts in a narrow column of scanned lines of text.

  • Publication number: 20110191565
Abstract: A method for automatically optimizing an allocation amount for a data set includes receiving an extend request, specifying an allocation amount, for a data set in a storage pool. The method increments a counter in response to receiving the extend request. In the event the counter has reached a threshold value, the method automatically increases the allocation amount of the extend request, such as by multiplying the allocation amount by a multiplier. In the event the allocation amount is larger than a largest free extent in the storage pool, the method automatically decreases the allocation amount of the extend request to correspond to the largest available free extent. Such a method reduces or eliminates the chance that an extend request will fail, and reduces overhead associated with extending and consolidating extents. A corresponding apparatus and computer program product are also disclosed herein.

  • Patent number: 7990286
Abstract: Vehicles driving on a roadway interrogate passive tags in or on lanes of the roadway. Codes in the tags represent locations along the highway and which lane the vehicle is traveling in. Units in the vehicles communicate longitudinal and lane positions derived from the codes among each other or with infrastructure units for purposes such as traffic management, alerts concerning other vehicles, alerts concerning external conditions, or traffic control. The units may also communicate vehicle lengths or other parameters or characteristics. Vehicle units may communicate with sensors and actuators in the vehicles for purposes such as updating the vehicles' positions between adjacent tags. Specific applications for intelligent transportation systems are described.

  • Publication number: 20110184870
Abstract: A method for user interface workflow composition includes defining a form of different fields, at least one of the fields in the form referencing a business object providing access to data in an external data source that is different than at least one other data source for a correspondingly different one of the fields. A set of references to both human steps and automated steps of a workflow is loaded such, each human step referencing a corresponding user interface and each human step and automated step individually including contextual data. A human step is generated for the defined form and loading into the module. Graphical elements, each representative of a selected human or automated step, are visually placed into a canvas along with an individual graphical element representative of the defined form. Transitions are defined between the human and automated steps represented by corresponding graphical elements setting forth a user interface workflow.

  • Publication number: 20110182778
Abstract: A system and process for gasifying carbonaceous feedstock with staged slurry addition in order to prevent the formation of tar that causes deposition problems. Dry solid carbonaceous material is partially combusted, then pyrolysed along with a first slurry stream comprising carbonaceous material in two separate reactor sections, thereby producing mixture products comprising synthesis gas. The second slurry stream comprising particulate carbonaceous material is fed to a drying unit downstream of a heat recovery zone along with the mixture product exiting the heat recovery zone The resulting final temperature of the second stage mixture products and dried particulate carbonaceous material is between 450° F. and 550° F., a temperature range that is typically not conducive to the emission of heavy molecular-weight tar species.

  • Publication number: 20110185388
Abstract: Various embodiments described herein provide techniques for prioritizing content reception by a DVR. A DVR identifies a resource conflict between a use of a television receiving resource to receive programming currently being watched by a user and a use of the television receiving resource for receiving television programming for subsequent playback. The DVR evaluates various criteria regarding one or both uses of the television receiving resource and identifies a higher priority of one of the uses of the television receiving resource. The DVR then assigns a use of the television receiving resource according to the identified priority.

  • Patent number: 7985692
Abstract: A method of high aspect ratio contact etching a substantially vertical contact hole in an oxide layer using a hard photoresist mask is described. The oxide layer is deposited on an underlying substrate. A plasma etching gas is formed from a carbon source gas. Dopants are mixed into the gas. The doped plasma etching gas etches a substantially vertical contact hole through the oxide layer by doping carbon chain polymers formed along the sidewalls of the contact holes during the etching process into a conductive state. The conductive state of the carbon chain polymers reduces the charge buildup along sidewalls to prevent twisting of the contact holes by bleeding off the charge and ensuring proper alignment with active area landing regions. The etching stops at the underlying substrate.

  • Publication number: 20110173854
Abstract: A sign sash is placed around a corner of an existing political campaign or other sign and conveys an additional message. A strip of paper is scored down the middle and folded over to form front and back sign sash portions. The front and back portions are connected at their edges and at least one bears a display. A sign corner can be inserted between the front and back portions and the sign sash allowed to rest on the sign and display the graphic across the surface of the sign. The sign sash is made of rigid card-stock and adhesive and/or fasteners connect the front and back portions. A fastener can secure the sheet to the sign corner or another object. The sign sash is useful for varying sign messages and for adding to the message as events change, for instance to thank supporters after a vote is concluded.
