Abstract: A method for protecting commercial goods against counterfeiting by detecting counterfeited goods that can be used by manufacturers for protection of their products and for protecting consumers from buying goods produced by illegal manufacturers. A three-dimensional identifier is affixed onto the product and an original digital image sample of the identifier is generated and stored in a database. The identifier is made of a transparent material with non-transparent particles distributed randomly throughout. A consumer, when purchasing the product can makes a digital picture of the product's identifier and sends it to the manufacturer or a third party. The manufacturer or a third party compares the digital picture received from the consumer with the original digital image sample stored in the database for authentication of the product.
