  • Patent number: 7546760
Abstract: A device for intake manifold pressure-based determination of the air mass flowing into the cylinder combustion chamber is provided. A logic unit determines the inflowing air mass based on the intake manifold pressure using a calculation model for load detection that determines the intake manifold pressure in an upper partial range of the intake manifold pressure. A sensor device for direct detection of the intake manifold pressure measures the intake manifold pressure only in a lower partial range of the intake manifold pressure in the internal combustion engine. The logic unit determines the inflowing air mass as a function of the intake manifold pressure measured by the sensor deice when within the lower partial range of the intake manifold pressure, and based on the intake manifold pressure determined by use of the calculation model when within the upper partial range.

  • Patent number: 6321529
Abstract: An exhaust system of a multi-cylinder internal-combustion engine has at least one system part in which the internal-combustion engine exhaust gases or portions thereof are first guided through at least two partial pipe trains apportioned to cylinder groups, in which partial pipe trains, one starting catalyst respectively is inserted and which combine to form a joint main pipe in which a main catalyst is inserted, at least one lambda probe being arranged in front of and one lambda probe being arranged behind the catalysts. In front of each starting catalyst, a lambda probe is arranged and an additional lambda probe is arranged in at least one partial pipe train behind the starting catalyst.

  • Patent number: 6065446
Abstract: A setpoint torque is determined from a torque factor, a maximum torque and a minimum torque. The torque factor is derived from a pedal value and a rotational speed. The maximum and minimum torques are determined as a function of the rotational speed, a loss torque and engine performance parameters. The loss torque is determined as a function of the rotational speed and the performance parameters.

  • Patent number: 6044826
Abstract: A diagnostic device for monitoring an exhaust gas recirculation system determines a diagnostic value of the exhaust gas recirculation system without influencing the operation of the internal combustion engine. The diagnostic value depends on the intake pipe pressure and an observer intake pipe pressure. The latter is determined by an observer from one or more further operating variables of the internal combustion engine. The diagnostic device determines that the exhaust gas recirculation system is defective when the diagnostic value lies outside a range of values that depend on at least one operating variable.

  • Patent number: 5974870
Abstract: A method for calculating an actual fresh-air mass flowing into a cylinder with the aid of an inlet pipe flow model. The description of the flow model is based on a nonlinear differential equation. The chosen model approach contains modeling of an external exhaust-gas recycling system, variable inlet systems and systems with variable control valves. The model-assisted load detection method can be used in engine control systems based on air mass flow and on inlet pipe pressure. A correction algorithm, in the form of a model control loop allows permanent improvement of accuracy when the model parameters are inexact. That is to say model balancing is provided in steady and unsteady operational states.

  • Patent number: 5889205
Abstract: A method for determining an air mass flow into cylinders of an internal combustion engine with the aid of a model includes calculating an air mass actually flowing into a cylinder with the aid of an intake tube filling model supplying a load variable on the basis of which an injection time is determined, from input variables relating to throttle opening angle and ambient pressure and from parameters representing valve control. The load variable is used for prediction in order to estimate the load variable at an instant which is at least one sampling step later than a current calculation of the injection time.

  • Patent number: 5878732
Abstract: A method of determining a mass of fuel to be introduced into a suction pipe or into a cylinder of an internal combustion engine precontrols a basic injection time constituting a basic injection quantity, through a prescription of a lambda set point. The lambda set point is determined by a coordinated calculation through selecting a minimum and a maximum from a multiplicity of different lambda requirements which are derived from operating states of the internal combustion engine. Different priorities are allocated to the various lambda requirements.

  • Patent number: 5566090
Abstract: A method for detecting bad stretches of road includes ascertaining a tripping variable representing acceleration of at least one wheel of a vehicle. A bad stretch of road is detected if the amount of the tripping variable exceeds a predeterminable limit value. The tripping variable is dependent on at least two segment times that the wheel needs to pass through associated angle segments.
