  • Publication number: 20220344970
Abstract: An energy harvesting system is disclosed that is especially well-suited for use on aerodynamic systems such as guided projectiles or other aerobodies. A series of piezoelectric cantilevers are arranged to capture vibrations from the ambient environment and transduce the mechanical motion from the vibrations into useful electrical energy. The piezoelectric cantilevers can be arranged along different planes from one another to capture different vibrational modes and directions. A power conditioning circuit is included to receive the electrical energy produced by the piezoelectric cantilevers. A storage element coupled to the power conditioning circuit is configured to store charge based on the electrical energy produced by the plurality of piezoelectric cantilever structures. The stored charge can be used to provide low levels of power to certain electrical components on board the aerodynamic system before it has been launched.

  • Patent number: 11342687
Abstract: An endfire antenna structure is disclosed that is for use on aerodynamic systems. The antenna structure includes a first layer of patterned metal, a second layer of patterned metal, and a stack of material layers that includes the first layer of patterned metal and the second layer of patterned metal. The first layer of patterned metal includes a plurality of parallel slots etched through the metal. The second layer of patterned metal includes a tapered radio frequency (RF) feedline having a narrow end coupled to an input/output (I/O) antenna connection. The second layer of patterned metal is aligned over the first layer of patterned metal such that the tapered RF feedline has a length that extends across the plurality of parallel slots. The stack of material layers is flexible such that the stack of material layers is configured to wrap at least partially around the fuselage of an aerodynamic system.

  • Patent number: 11168959
Abstract: An optical seeker assembly having an optical detector located within the wing or canards of a precision guided munition. The optical seeker provides on-wing processing that generates low bandwidth detection data that can be easily transferred to a primary CPU located within the main body or fuselage of the precision guided munition. The on-wing processing reduces or eliminates the need for optical fibers extending between an optical wedge and an optical detector to reduce the likelihood of optical fibers from impeding in the mechanical deployment of the wing and reduces losses. The reduction or elimination of optical fibers between the optical wedge and the optical detector further enables the optical detection assembly to have a higher pixel ratio or transmitting raw data between the wedge and the detector by sending sampled detection data across a low bandwidth link to a CPU in the main body.

  • Publication number: 20210305481
Abstract: The system and method for phase noise reduction and/or vibration reduction in assemblies using piezoelectric passive resonant shunt damping or active vibration cancellation/compensation techniques. In some cases a circuit card or similar structure comprises an embedded piezoelectric device to reduce the effects of vibration on any sensitive device or component thereon. The system has a resonant shunt circuit or other control circuit to provide electrical loading to the piezoelectric device and may be single frequency mode or multimodal. The system may also be adaptively controlled by a microprocessor or the like, so that the vibration sensitive devices are monitored and controlled over time to extend the life of the device.
