    Abstract: A machine includes an input port to receive closed caption information, which can be decoded from a transport stream. A calculator calculates a bit rate for the closed caption information. The calculated bit rate for the closed caption information can then be output. An alert can also be generated if the calculated bit rate for the closed caption information is zero for longer than a user-defined period of time.
