  • Patent number: 10060384
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for forming an air-fuel mixture in a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine. In one example, a system may include an adjustable intake line coupled to an inlet opening of the cylinder. The system may adjust turbulence formed in the cylinder in response to engine operating conditions by controlling a pivoting angle between a first section of the intake line and a second section of the intake line.

  • Patent number: 9885399
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for an engine crankshaft including an un-balanced mass coupled to a planetary gear set driven by the engine crankshaft. In one example, a system may include an engine crankshaft as a sun gear for a planetary gear set, with a single un-balanced mass coupled to an outer ring of the planetary gear set. In another example, a method may include driving an engine crankshaft in a first direction and driving an un-balanced mass coupled to an outer ring of a planetary gear set in a second direction opposite to the first direction, with rotation of the outer ring being driven by the engine crankshaft.

  • Publication number: 20180017013
Abstract: A method for operating a fuel injection system is provided. The method includes injecting fuel from a first direct fuel injection device arranged in a cylinder liner in a cylinder block into a combustion chamber and injecting fuel from a second direct fuel injection device arranged in a cylinder head into the combustion chamber, the first and second direct fuel injection devices arranged at an obtuse angle with regard to an intersection of central axes of the first and second direct fuel injection devices.

  • Publication number: 20180003140
Abstract: Examples are directed to a fuel injection device positioned in a cylinder liner. In one example, a cylinder includes a combustion chamber which is jointly formed by a piston crown of a piston, by a cylinder barrel which laterally delimits the combustion chamber, and by a cylinder head. The cylinder includes an injection device positioned in the cylinder barrel for direct introduction of fuel into the combustion chamber, which injection device has at least one opening which, during a course of an injection process, is configured to be activated to introduce fuel into the combustion chamber, the injection device terminating flush, at a combustion chamber side, with the cylinder barrel.

  • Publication number: 20160201583
Abstract: The disclosure relates to an engine having a cylinder head which is divided into multiple sections which each delimit a combustion chamber of a cylinder of the engine and which each comprise inlet and outlet ducts, inlet and outlet valves, and a spark device which is fastened in a through hole of the cylinder head section, for at least one cylinder head section a throttle flap being provided for completely closing the corresponding inlet duct in the event of a deactivation of the associated cylinder. In the at least one cylinder head section, a first gas flow duct is formed between the through hole and the outlet duct, and the spark device is in the form of a rotary slide valve with integrated spark electrodes and is configured to selectively either keep the first gas flow duct closed or connect said first gas flow duct to the associated combustion chamber.
