    Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for physical layer beam indications. A method for operating a user equipment (UE) includes receiving one or more first transmission configuration indicator (TCI) states for reception and transmission of downlink (DL) channels and uplink (UL) channels, respectively; receiving one or more TCI state identifiers (IDs); and transmitting an acknowledgement in response to the reception of the one or more TCI state IDs. The method further includes, based on the acknowledgement: determining, based on the one or more TCI state IDs, one or more second TCI states; determining a time to apply the one or more second TCI states; and updating one or more spatial filters based on the one or more second TCI states.
