  • Patent number: 9819373
Abstract: Various embodiments of communication systems and methods in which the communication system is operative to find, record, and use sets of pre-distortion parameters in conjunction with a pre-distortion procedure, in which each set of pre-distortion parameters is operative to specifically counter distortions produced in a power amplifier by a specific combination of level of input signal power and level of analog gain associated with a transmission path of the communication system. In some embodiments, there is a modulator, a transmission chain, a distortion analysis mechanism, and a pre-distortion mechanism, operative to analyze and modify signals so as to counter signal distortion.

  • Patent number: 9692628
Abstract: Various embodiments of wireless communication systems and methods in which the system seamlessly dual-uses a receiver chain for incoming transmissions and for other signal sensing purposes. The system is configured such that there are multiple receiver chains, and at least one receiver chain alternates between receiving a communication signal with information payload and receiving other signals solely for the purposes of monitoring and/or improving some aspects of the system. In various embodiments, the alternating receiver chain receives alternatively signals with information payloads and signals which have passes through a power amplifier with amplifier distortion characteristics. In various embodiments, the alternating receiver chain receives alternatively signals with information payloads and signals which may be associated with background noise, or other radio transmissions.

  • Publication number: 20150223176
Abstract: Various embodiments of wireless communication systems and methods in which the system applies a clipping and filtering procedures iteratively in order to reduce the peak-to-average power ratio of a transmission. In various embodiments, the clipping level changes in each iteration. In various embodiments, the clipping mechanism is a polar clipping mechanism. In various embodiments, out-of-band signal filtering is executed by a filter. In various embodiments, there is a pre-clipping process, which may be executed by a decimation mechanism, or alternatively by a zero-padding mechanism. In various embodiments, the clipping mechanism and filter are embedded in one or more processors, any one of which may be a DSP processor. In various embodiments, clipping levels are determined by a look-up table.

  • Patent number: 6972637
Abstract: Briefly, in accordance with one embodiment of the invention, a combiner may include transmission lines to couple a receive port and a transmit port to an antenna at a common junction. Shunt admittance elements may be utilized at the transmit and the receive ports to isolate one of the transmit and the receive ports from the antenna by shunting the at least one of the transmit and the receive ports to a power supply potential such as a ground reference. During a transmit mode, the shunt admittance element at the receive port may shunt the receive port to the power supply potential, thereby isolating the receive port from the antenna. During a receive mode the shunt admittance element at the transmit port may shunt the transmit port to the power supply potential, thereby isolating the transmit port from the antenna.
