Abstract: A device adapted for maintaining an airway in a patient, the device comprising a mask, the mask adapted to form a seal around the laryngeal inlet when properly inserted into a patient and an airway tube for providing ventilation gases and/or anaesthetic gases through the mask and to the lungs of the patient when the device is properly inserted in a patient, wherein the airway tube has a first proximal opening and a second proximal opening.

Abstract: A device for maintaining an airway in a patient includes a mask having a portion that forms a seal with the larynx when the mask is positioned in the laryngo pharynx to thereby prevent ingress of extraneous fluids into the larynx, includes an airway tube connected to or formed with the mask for passing gas to the larynx when the mask is properly inserted into the laryngo pharynx. The mask includes a proximal portion adapted to collapse or compress so that a proximal ventral part of the mask can move relatively towards a dorsal part of the mask during insertion of the mask. This facilitates insertion of the mask into the patient.

Abstract: A laryngeal mask for establishing an artificial airway in a patient includes a mask portion having a resilient conformable peripheral portion shaped such that the mask forms a seal with the larynx when the mask is positioned in the laryngopharynx, and an airway tube connected to or formed with the mask for passing gas to the larynx when the mask is properly inserted into the laryngopharynx. The mask portion includes at least one region of reduced wall thickness or enhanced flexibility, and at least one region of increased wall thickness (relative to the reduced wall thickness) or enhanced stiffness (relative to the region of enhanced flexibility), the at least one region of increased wall thickness or enhanced stiffness having a larger longitudinal extent than a longitudinal extent of the at least one region of reduced wall thickness or enhanced flexibility. The resilient conformable peripheral portion may be an inflatable cuff.
