Abstract: Techniques for enhancing synchronization capabilities of electronic devices based on audio and on group activities are described herein. The electronic device may be configured to receive an audio signal that represents speech. The electronic device may determine whether the audio signal is associated with a location in a content item or whether the audio signal corresponds to a phrase. The electronic device may update a location setting based on the determined location, may update a location setting based on the phrase, or may provide an option to create a phrase. The electronic device may be further configured to determine a location setting for a content item based on a location setting for that content item received from another device, that device and the electronic device belonging to a group.

For example, electronic books may be associated with content that is in addition to the content originally provided to an individual acquiring the electronic book, such as annotations, social networking site information, media outlet information, and the like. Individuals may control the supplemental electronic book content that is rendered via their client devices via actuation of a physical input device or a representation of an input device shown via a touch sensitive display. The amount of supplemental content that is rendered may correspond to information associated with a specified number of categories of supplemental electronic book content based on a supplemental content rendering level.

Abstract: A facility is described for providing shared telepointers and for enabling hosts and participants to highlight portions of documents or applications using the shared telepointers. In various embodiments, the facility establishes a sharing session wherein an application executing on a host computing device is shared with a participant computing device, receives at the host computing device an indication from a participant computing device to identify a region to users in the sharing session, draws the identified region on a display device associated with the host computing device, and causes the identified region to be drawn on a display device associated with the participant computing device. In various embodiments, the region is a spot region or a highlighted region that is drawn in a color associated with a user of the participant computing device.
