Patent number: 11501514Abstract: Large scale instance recognition is provided that can take advantage of channel-wise pooling. A received query image is processed to extract a set of features that can be used to generate a set of region proposals. The proposed regions of image data are processed using a trained classifier to classify the regions as object or non-object regions. Extracted features for the object regions are processed using feature correlation against extracted features for a set of object images, each representing a classified object. Matching tensors generated from the comparison are processed using a spatial verification network to determine match scores for the various object images with respect to a specific object region. The match scores are used to determine which objects, or types of objects, are represented in the query image. Information or content associated with the matching objects can be provided as part of a response.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 2020Date of Patent: November 15, 2022Assignee: A9.com, Inc.Inventors: Hao-Yu Wu, Tian Cao, Bhargava Urala Kota, Mehmet Nejat Tek

Patent number: 11403697Abstract: Various approaches provide for visual similarity-based search techniques that allow a user to provide two-dimensional image data (e.g., still images or video) about an item and search for items having related three-dimensional features. In order to create an electronic catalog of items that is searchable by three-dimensional features, the features are extracted from image data for each item. The three-dimensional features can be extracted using a trained model, such as a trained neural network or other machine learning-based approach. Thus, three-dimensional features of items in the electronic catalog can be determined and used to select or rank the items in response to a visual search query based on determined three-dimensional features of the query item. For example, three-dimensional features of the query item can be used to query the electronic catalog of items, in which items having visual attributes of similar three-dimensional features are selected and returned as search results.Type: GrantFiled: February 7, 2018Date of Patent: August 2, 2022Assignee: A9.com, Inc.Inventors: Hao-Yu Wu, Mehmet Nejat Tek, Ke Zhang

Patent number: 11238515Abstract: The present embodiments provide visual search techniques which produces results that include both accurate similar items as well diversified items through attribute manipulation. In some embodiments, a feature vector describing the item of interest is obtained. A target feature vector is then generated at least partially from the original feature vector, in which the target feature vector shares only a subset of attribute values with the original feature vector and includes at least some values that are different from the original feature vector. An electronic catalog of items is then queried using the target feature vector, and a set of candidate items are determined from the electronic catalog based at least in part on similarity to the target feature vector. The original feature vector may be used to query for a set of similar items that are as similar as possible to the item of interest.Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 2019Date of Patent: February 1, 2022Assignee: A9.COM, INC.Inventors: Krystle Elaine de Mesa, Aishwarya Natesh, Andrea Joyce Diane Zehr, Rupa Chaturvedi, Mehmet Nejat Tek, Julie Chang

Patent number: 10846335Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for quickly and easily browsing to points of interest within a recorded video. In examples, the present system works in tandem with a segment list which includes a list of different video sequences of a stored video of an event. One typical example of a segment list is a play-by-play (PBP) which is prepared contemporaneously with a sporting event. Segments from a segment list may be associated with, or indexed to, corresponding sequences from the stored video. Thereafter, a user interface allows a user to interactively watch or browse the event by jumping to a desired point in the video for playback by selecting its associated segment from the user interface.Type: GrantFiled: July 3, 2018Date of Patent: November 24, 2020Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Simon Baker, Eran Borenstein, Mehmet Nejat Tek, Eitan Sharon

Patent number: 10210423Abstract: Object identification through image matching can utilize ratio and other data to accurately identify objects having relatively few feature points otherwise useful for identifying objects. An initial image analysis attempts to locate a “scalar” in the image, such as may include a label, text, icon, or other identifier that can help to narrow a classification of the search, as well as to provide a frame of reference for relative measurements obtained from the image. By comparing the ratios of dimensions of the scalar with other dimensions of the object, it is possible to discriminate between objects containing that scalar in a way that is relatively robust to changes in viewpoint. A ratio signature can be generated for an object for use in matching, while in other embodiments a classification can identify priority ratios that can be used to more accurately identify objects in that classification.Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 2016Date of Patent: February 19, 2019Assignee: A9.com, Inc.Inventors: Ismet Zeki Yalniz, Colin Jon Taylor, Mehmet Nejat Tek, Shanghsuan Tsai

Patent number: 10109051Abstract: Images may be analyzed to determine a visually cohesive color palette, for example by comparing a subset of the colors most frequently appearing in the image to a plurality of color schemes (e.g., complementary, analogous, etc.), and potentially modifying one or more of the subset of colors to more accurately fit the selected color scheme. Various regions of the image are selected and portions of the regions having one or more colors of the color palette are extracted and classified to generate and compare feature vectors of the patches to previously-determined feature vectors of items to identify visually similar items. The visually similar items are selected for presentation in various ways, such as by choosing an outfit of visually-similar apparel items based on the locations of the corresponding colors in the image, etc.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 2016Date of Patent: October 23, 2018Assignee: A9.com, Inc.Inventors: Aishwarya Natesh, Arnab Sanat Kumar Dhua, Ming Du, R. Publication number: 20150312652Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for automatically generating a highlight reel of video content. Segments from a segment list may be associated with, or indexed to, corresponding sequences from a video of an event for which the segment list is prepared. Thereafter, also using the segment list, segments may be scored using a variety of predefined criteria to come up with segments which are likely to be of greatest interest to a particular user. The video sequences associated with the highest scored segments are used as the video highlight reel.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 24, 2014Publication date: October 29, 2015Applicant: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Simon Baker, Eran Borenstein, Eitan Sharon, Mehmet Nejat Tek

Patent number: 7590170Abstract: A system and method for characterizing the jitter of a periodic signal. Samples of the signal are taken with a sampling device. A set of samples representing a particular value of the signal in multiple cycles of the periodic signal is collected. Those values are formed into a histogram. The histogram is matched to a probability distribution function. By identifying parameters that shape the probability distribution function to match the histogram of actual samples, characteristics of the jitter are determined. This technique may be employed as part of the calibration or verification of the jitter injection instrument such as might be used for testing semiconductor devices. Measurements may be made with a sampling device that is calibrated to NIST standards. In this way, the jitter measurements become NIST traceable.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 2004Date of Patent: September 15, 2009Assignee: Teradyne, Inc.Inventors: Mehmet Nejat Tek, Chibling Liu
