Patent number: 9573392Abstract: In a method to operate an ink printing apparatus, and in an ink printing apparatus, a recording medium is directed through a printer. The recording medium is subsequently supplied to a dryer having at least one heating saddle and a drying channel arranged at the heating saddle. In the dryer the recording medium is directed past the heating saddle. A negative pressure is generated in the drying channel via an air exhaust arranged at one end of the drying channel. In the printing operation, in a region of the heating saddle a negative pressure is exerted on the recording medium in a direction of the heating saddle so that the heating saddle is then in contact with the recording medium in order to dry the ink on the recording medium. Upon interruption of the printing operation with braking of the recording medium, the negative pressure in the direction of the heating saddle is deactivated at a beginning of the braking.Type: GrantFiled: November 10, 2015Date of Patent: February 21, 2017Assignee: Océ´ Printing Systems GmbH & Co. KGInventors: Mehrad Biglari, Robert Heimbach

Patent number: 9375952Abstract: In a method or device to determine a lift state of a recording medium from a surface of a heating saddle of an inkjet printing system, the recording medium being directed past the surface for drying, an index for power consumption of the heating saddle is determined including a determination of a time curve of the electrical power consumed by the heating saddle. The power consumption of the heating saddle depends on a desired temperature of the heating saddle. The lift state of the recording medium is determined based on the index for the power consumption.Type: GrantFiled: August 11, 2015Date of Patent: June 28, 2016Assignee: Océ Printing Systems GmbH & Co. KGInventors: Mehrad Biglari, Robert Heimbach, Robert Lang

Patent number: 9004635Abstract: In a method to execute a pause function in an inkjet printing system with at least one printing apparatus, the pause function is triggered to reduce a feed speed of the printing substrate web from a speed during printing operation to a predetermined speed for a predetermined duration. The duration is selected so that the printing substrate has suitable properties with regard to at least one of the elements selected from the group consisting of moisture and temperature under the printing unit of the printing apparatus at an end of the pause function. After ending the pause function, the printing substrate web is accelerated again to the speed during the printing operation.Type: GrantFiled: January 17, 2012Date of Patent: April 14, 2015Assignee: Océ Printing Systems GmbHInventors: Mehrad Biglari, Joachim Samweber, Peter Thiemann

Patent number: 8926049Abstract: In a method to execute a pause in an ink printing system printing operation in which a printing substrate web is printed with print bars having print heads, with aid of a take-up roller moving the printing substrate web at printing speed past the print bars in a transfer printing zone in order to generate print images. Upon triggering the pause, a strain state of the printing substrate web is measured at a beginning of the pause and stored as a desired strain state. During the pause, the strain state of the printing substrate web is measured as a real strain state at selectable points in time, and the real strain state is compared with desired strain state. Given a deviation of the real strain state from the desired strain state, at the selectable points in time the take-up roller is controlled so that the strain state of the printing substrate web assumes the desired strain state at the beginning of the pause.Type: GrantFiled: July 23, 2013Date of Patent: January 6, 2015Assignee: Océ Printing Systems GmbHInventors: Mehrad Biglari, Admir Lela, Peter Thiemann, Stephan Pilsl

Patent number: 8864270Abstract: In a method to execute a pause function of an ink printing system wherein a printing substrate web is printed with a printing unit with print bars having print heads, a real value of a web tension of the printing substrate web is measured with a web tension sensor. In a printing operation the real value of the web tension is regulated to a predetermined desired operating value of the web tension. With triggering of the pause function, the web tension is further regulated by modifying the desired value of the web tension so that the printing substrate web assumes a position at the print heads after an end of the pause function that it had before a beginning of the pause function. After the end of the pause function, the real value of the web tension is regulated again to the desired operating value of the web tension.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 2012Date of Patent: October 21, 2014Assignee: Océ Printing Systems GmbHInventors: Mehrad Biglari, Admir Lela, Peter Thiemann
