Patent number: 9873341Abstract: An onboard charging module (OBCM), e.g., for a vehicle, is characterized by an absence of a transformer and includes an AC-to-DC voltage rectifier, DC-DC buck converter, DC-DC boost converter, DC link capacitor between the buck converter and boost converter, and solid-state devices. The devices include a diode and first and second switches having opposite open/closed switching states. The first and second switches are connected to a common rail of a DC bus, the first switch and diode are between the voltage rectifier and boost converter, and the second switch is between the link capacitor and buck converter. Third and fourth switches may be used on the opposite rail as the first and second switches. The OBCM is operable, via operation of the solid-state devices, to charge the HV-ESS via an AC power supply while maintaining current isolation. An electrical system includes the OBCM, DC bus, and HV-ESS.Type: GrantFiled: August 5, 2015Date of Patent: January 23, 2018Assignee: GM Global Technology Operations LLCInventors: Ahmad Albanna, Md Nayeem Arafat, William T. Patent number: 6160467Abstract: In one embodiment of the present invention, a transformer includes a first secondary winding made of stamped and bent metal. This first secondary winding has a coil portion with substantially closed cross section. The transformer also includes a primary winding made of wire and having a coil portion wound around the coil portion of the first secondary winding. A second secondary winding made of stamped and bent metal and having a coil portion with substantially closed cross section has its coil portion disposed about the coil portion of the primary winding. The primary winding further includes a second coil portion wound around the coil portion of the second secondary winding. The transformer thus provided is easier to build and less apt to internal short-circuiting than alternative designs.Type: GrantFiled: August 9, 1995Date of Patent: December 12, 2000Assignee: Visteon Global Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Mehrdad Teimorzadeh, John Bernard Huss
