Abstract: The present invention provides systems and methods for automatically gathering computer data from a plurality of networked computer systems. In one aspect, a system is provided for automatically generating computer usage and state data. The system includes an application layer associated with an operating system to gather data from one or more computer components, wherein a collection file specifies the data to gather. The collection file includes query information for directing the application layer with respect to what type of information to gather from various components or modules in the computer system. An automated task scheduler operates with the collection file to transmit gathered data to a centralized collection agency for further analysis.
