Abstract: A method and a system for managing contact information via a communication network are described. The method and the system establish a record for a user, where the record is indexed by an index associated with the user (e.g. the user's email address). The record includes a profile of the user and a list of contacts. Each contact also has a record indexed by a unique index associated with the contact. When it is determined that a change has been made to the user's profile, the system locates each of the contacts in a database using the unique index, and updates the record of each contact with the change to the profile. Through a bi-directional link established between the user and his contact, any changes in the user's record or his contact's record can be seen by each other.
