Abstract: A method for detecting the presence of a microorganism in a fluid sample is disclosed. The method includes providing a fluid specimen within a specimen collection container having a sidewall defining an interior therein. The interior includes a mechanical separator adapted for separating the fluid sample into first and second phases within the specimen collection container and a sensing element capable of detecting the presence of a microorganism disposed therein. The method includes subjecting the specimen collection container to applied rotational force to isolate a concentrated microorganism region. The method also includes detecting by a sensing element the presence or absence of a microorganism within the concentrated microorganism region.

Abstract: A method of operating a speaker system including a speaker coupled to an amplifier, and a dedicated digital speaker protection circuit includes turning on the amplifier in a mute mode, after a first delay period, issuing a play command to the amplifier to place the amplifier in a play mode, but without an input signal during a second delay period, and performing a speaker offset detection during the second delay period, wherein, if there is an offset, then the amplifier is forced back into the mute mode, and if there is no offset, then the amplifier is allowed to continue to operate in the play mode. The method also includes issuing a speaker protection control signal or command if an offset is detected.

Abstract: Presented herein are kits for the detection of specific beta-lactamases, including class A serine carbapenemases, metallo-beta-lactamases, AmpC beta-lactamases, and extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs). The kits presented herein include kits that permit the detection of the presence of specific beta-lactamases in bacterial samples within as few as 2 to 10 minutes.

Abstract: A clamping circuit for a class AB amplifier includes a reference voltage circuit, four NPN Darlington transistors having inputs coupled to the reference voltage circuit, and outputs for providing four clamped voltages and a split NPN Darlington transistor having an input coupled to the reference voltage circuit, and four separate outputs for providing four AC ground voltages.

Abstract: An optical coupling module includes a silicon photonic substrate, and an optical waveguide module. The silicon photonic substrate has a first surface and a first grating on the first surface for diffracting the light which passes through the grating. The optical waveguide module is disposed on the silicon photonic substrate, wherein the optical waveguide module includes an optical waveguide having an end disposed in corresponding to the first grating of the silicon photonic substrate. Otherwise, the optical waveguide module has a reflective surface coupled to the end of the optical waveguide and adapted to reflect the light emerging from or incident into the grating to form an optical path between the silicon photonic substrate and the optical waveguide for transmitting the light.

Abstract: A computer implemented method, data processing system, and computer program product for scheduling calendaring entries within the context of an instant messaging client. The instant messaging client receives input from a user to schedule an instant messaging chat session with one or more invitees, wherein the one or more invitees are selected from a list of contacts in the instant messaging client. The instant messaging client provides a scheduling interface to the user, wherein the scheduling interface allows the user to define properties for the instant messaging chat session. Responsive to receiving user input defining the instant messaging chat session, an entry is created in the user's calendaring system to form a scheduled instant messaging chat session, wherein the entry is based on the properties defined in the scheduling interface.

Abstract: A keyboard having a touch input device includes a keyboard body and a touch input device. The touch input device is disposed on the keyboard body and is used in a digital input mode. The touch input device has a touch pad and a pattern layer. The pattern layer is bonded to a surface of the touch pad, and has a plurality of key indication areas. Each key indication area is corresponding to a key used in the digital input mode, for being recognized and selected by a user. In addition, through a switching module disposed on the keyboard, the digital input mode can be switched to a cursor control mode, a gesture control mode, or a handwriting input mode, thereby achieving a wide range of applications.

Abstract: A computer implemented method, data processing system, and computer program product for enabling users to view a plurality of instant messaging chat conversations and respond quickly and easily a selected conversation, while minimizing the impact on the users' other activities. Users are also provided with the option of choosing which instant messaging conversations to monitor and which responses from particular people or topics to display. Multiple instant messaging chat conversations are provided to a user via a scrolling chat window, wherein the scrolling chat window allows the user to scroll through and monitor the multiple instant messaging chat conversations. When user input is received for a selected instant messaging chat conversation, the selected instant messaging chat conversation is loaded and displayed into an instant messaging chat window to allow the user to respond to the selected instant messaging chat conversation.

Abstract: A method of searching a service oriented architecture industry model repository comprising a meta model service associated with a physical asset repository, the meta model service comprising: at least one topic map meta model with data specific to a particular topic or industry vertical included within an information model repository common meta-meta model, the information model repository common meta-meta model included within a meta-meta-meta model with a topic map based index. The method comprises: a computer receiving entry of a search term for the service oriented architecture industry model repository; the computer searching the service oriented architecture industry model repository for the search term; and displaying results of the searching of the service oriented architecture industry model repository as a topic map comprising data representing meta model service through a graphical interface.

Abstract: A power transistor for use in an audio application is laid out to minimize hot spots. Hot spots are created by non-uniform power dissipation or overly concentrated current densities. The source and drain pads are disposed relative to each other to facilitate uniform power dissipation. Interleaving metal fingers and upper metal layers are connected directly to lower metal layers in the absence of vias to improve current density distribution. This layout improves some fail detection tests by 17%.

Abstract: A biosensor that is capable of detecting the presence and/or concentration of an analyte or biomarker includes at least one electrically conductive electrode operatively coupled to an impedance analyzer for measuring the change in the resistive impedance ?ZRe of the electrode in response to an applied alternating current at a plurality of frequencies. In one embodiment, at least one electrode is covered with a self-assembled monolayer that is chemically bonded to a surface. A plurality of virus particles such as phage viruses are immobilized on the self-assembled monolayer and may be exposed to a test or sample solution. The virus particles may be obtained from phage-displayed libraries to detect a wide variety of targets including, for example, DNA, RNA, small molecules, and proteins or polypeptides. In another embodiment, the virus particles are electrostatically bound to a substrate in between a pair of elongated electrodes disposed on a substrate.

Abstract: A computer, for planning moves of freight using vehicles, determines one or more attributes of a mission, based on a group of shipments being consolidated into the mission, computes a total amount of freight to be moved, and decides on feasibility of performing the mission, using a vehicle of a given type based at least on each of (A) the amount of freight, (B) one or more attributes of the mission, and (C) multiple effective capacities of freight moveable by the type of vehicle being selected, which depend on the mission attribute(s). Multiple effective capacities for each vehicle type, and corresponding values of mission attribute(s) at which they are to be applied are stored in the computer ahead of time, based on industry experience. Examples of mission attribute(s) include (1) number of stops, (2) type of stops (whether pooling or not), and (3) a combination thereof.

Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention provides a switch capable of auto-configuration of client devices for a link aggregation. The switch includes a packet processor, an auto-configuration module, and a link-aggregation management module. During operation, the packet processor extracts an identifier of a client device from a notification message received via a local port. The auto-configuration module, which is coupled to the packet processor, associates the local port with the identifier of the client device. If the packet processor recognizes the identifier of the client device in a message received from a remote switch, the link-aggregation management module forms a multi-switch link aggregation for the client device in conjunction with the remote switch.

Abstract: Systems, methods and media for playback of instant messaging session history in an instant messaging system by facilitating recording and playback of an instant messaging session history to a user are disclosed. Embodiments may include, during an instant messaging session where one or more instant messaging events occur, determining a timestamp associated with the one or more instant messaging events and recording an indication of the one or more instant messaging events and their associated timestamps. Embodiments may also include receiving one or more playback commands and, in response to the received playback commands, displaying playback of the one or more instant messaging events based on their associated timestamps. The instant messaging events may include one or more of a text message, file transfer, input device movement, or a status indication such as offline, returned from offline, away, returned from away, secure session established, session beginning or session ending.

Abstract: Described herein is a method of treatment of cancer or tumor using a modified bacteria or composition comprising the modified bacteria. In certain embodiments, the method is in combination with other treatment. In certain embodiments, the treatment is chemotherapy, radiation therapy, gene therapy, surgery or a combination thereof. The method makes modified facultative anaerobic bacteria into a conditional obligate anaerobe. The modified bacteria are strictly hypoxia regulated and comprise an essential gene expressing cassette. The vectors of this method comprise the essential gene expressing cassette. Also described herein are therapeutic and prophylactic compositions comprising the modified bacteria. The therapeutic and prophylactic compositions contain a purified form of the modified bacteria, while in certain embodiments, they do not contain other strain of microorganisms. The modified bacteria grow within the solid tumor/cancer, retarding its growth and are rapidly eliminated from normal tissues.

Abstract: A liquid crystal display includes a liquid crystal panel having a plurality of pixel units, a scanning driver configured to provide scanning signals to scan the pixel units, a data driver configured to provide data voltage signals to the pixel electrode of the pixel units; and a common voltage driver configured to provide a common voltage signal to the common electrodes of the pixel units. Each pixel unit includes a pixel electrode and a common electrode, and the pixel units cooperatively display picture frame by frame. A dummy cycle period is defined between two sequent normal frame periods. The common voltage signal is an alternating current voltage signal in each normal frame period, and a polarity of the common voltage signal is fixed in the dummy cycle. A method for driving a liquid crystal display is also provided.

Abstract: A method for building a service oriented architecture industry model repository comprising: creating a meta-meta-meta model with a topic map based index; pre-populating the meta-meta-meta model with a topic map based index using the data from the physical asset repository and known relationships between topics, associations, and occurrences in topic maps within the meta model service; pre-populating an information model repository common meta-meta model comprising reusing a taxonomy specific to an industry vertical as a common ontology for the topic map based index; pre-populating the at least one topic map meta model with data specific to a particular topic or industry vertical from the physical asset repository; and pre-populating models of the at least one topic map meta model with data specific to a particular topic or industry vertical from the physical asset repository.

Abstract: A process of segmenting a single email so that portions of it may be directed to or away from select recipients is disclosed. The sender highlights portions of the email and right clicks (or key command, button, or menu item) and selects an option to select recipients. The operator interface then provides the sender with the option of selecting recipients from their address book or the server's address book. To speed the process along, the sender may select those already on the To, Cc, or Bcc distribution lists. The sender then selects whether those chosen will receive the highlighted portion or if they will be excluded from receiving it. Lastly, the sender will have the option of providing text that is unique to each of the selected groups.
