  • Publication number: 20100228760
Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products are provided for processing correlated queries in a collaborative, role-based, peer-to-peer (P2P) execution system. A correlated query is configured in accordance to a collaborative correlated query process (CQP) template. The collaborative CQP template defines roles and steps, each step being executable by one of the roles. A role is assigned to each peer node of the P2P system. A peer node having a designated role executes a step that is executable by the designated role. A message is communicated to other P2P nodes to indicate completion of the step. Another peer node having a matching role to a next step in the correlated query executes the next step in response to the message.

  • Publication number: 20100191716
Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products are provided for performing structured parallel data intensive computations. A SQL-FCF framework that defines a SQL construct based interface for performing the computations is provided. The computations within an application are coded as table valued functions (TVFs). Data for the application is partitioned into data partitions to co-locate and load balance the data partitions and corresponding computations. The TVFs are invoked and applied to corresponding ones of the data partitions in a structured order defined by function control forms (FCF).

  • Publication number: 20100192148
Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products are provided for generating application-aware data partitioning to support parallel computing. A label for a user defined data partitioning (UDP) key is generated by a labeling process to configure data partitions of original data. The UDP is labeled by the labeling process to include at least one key property excluded from the original data. The data partitions are evenly distributed to co-locate and balance the data partitions and corresponding computations performed by computational servers. A data record of the data partitions is retrieved by performing an all-node parallel search of the computational servers using the UDP key.

  • Patent number: 7761444
Abstract: A computer-executable method receives at least one query that specifies requests involving blocks of data. Based on information associated with at least one query, a sequence is identified relating to an order in which the blocks are to be retrieved into a storage for processing the requests. An output is provided for the at least one query based on retrieving the blocks into the storage according to the identified sequence. According to another implementation, a method includes caching blocks of data associated with processing a database query in a temporary storage, and replacing at least some of the blocks of data in the temporary storage using a first replacement algorithm this is based on information associated with processing the database query, and where the first algorithm is different from a second replacement algorithm used by an operating system of the database system.

  • Patent number: 7221474
Abstract: A method for graphically presenting large volumes of data without aggregation using a pixel bar chart. Records having multiple attributes are sorted for constructing a graphically displayable array, wherein the graphically displayable array comprises a plurality of pixels. Each pixel represents one record. The non-aggregation data visualization technique of the present invention provides solutions to meet the need of automatic data preparation for the visual data mining of massive data volumes. The present invention effectively uses screen space to represent each record without cluttering the display, allowing a user to easily discover patterns and correlations. The present invention provides a visual impression by representing the value of a record by a color and representing the number of records by the area of a group. With “drill down” capability, a user can navigate through each record to find detail information.

  • Patent number: 7181678
Abstract: Document clustering method and system utilizing both the log-based clustering method and the content-based clustering method are disclosed. The method includes the steps of generating log-based document clusters and combining vectors from the log-based document clusters with individual document clusters for content-based clustering analysis. The log-based document clusters are generated by accessing the retrieval session log, clustering the retrieval sessions, and combining the documents opened during each of the sessions of session clusters.

  • Patent number: 7039638
Abstract: A distributed data clustering system having an integrator and at least two computing units. Each computing unit is loaded with common global parameter values and a particular local data set. Each computing unit then generates local sufficient statistics based on the local data set and global parameter values. • Patent number: 7007020
Abstract: A distributed OLAP-based method and system for generating association rules. An architecture is provided for processing transaction data to generate summary information, customer profiles, and association rules. The distributed system includes at least two layers of data warehouse/OLAP stations: local data-warehouse OLAP stations (LDOSs) and a global data-warehouse OLAP station (GDOS). The LDOSs perform local data mining and summarization, and the GDOS merges, mines, and summarizes the input data received from LDOSs. The summarized data is then utilized by the GDOS to generate association rules that can be provided to the LDOSs for business planning.

  • Patent number: 6944607
Abstract: An aggregated data clustering method and system. First, the data points to be clustered and a size parameter are received. The size parameter specifies the number of data points to be moved at one time in the clustering algorithm. Next, the data points are clustered by using an aggregated clustering algorithm (e.g., aggregated local K-Means clustering algorithm) and the size parameter to generate clustered results. Then, a determination is made whether of not the clustered results are satisfactory. If the clustered results are satisfactory, the clustering is stopped. Otherwise, a modified or refined parameter size is received. Then, clustering is performed on the clustered results generated previously by using the aggregated clustering algorithm and the revised or refined parameter size. The steps of determining, modifying the parameter size, and aggregated clustering are repeated until satisfactory clustering results are achieved.

  • Patent number: 6917940
Abstract: An OLAP-based method and system for profiling customer behavior that can be utilized to detect telecommunication fraud. First, call records are received. Next, a calling profile cube (e.g., a multi-customer profile cube) is generated based on the call records. A volume-based calling pattern cube (e.g., a calling pattern cube for each individual customer) is then generated based on the multi-customer profile cube. The volume-based calling pattern cube is then compared with known fraudulent volume-based calling patterns. If the similarities generated by the comparison reaches or exceeds a predetermined threshold, then the particular caller with the calling pattern being analyzed is considered suspicious. In this manner, suspicious calling activity can be detected, and appropriate remedial actions, such as further investigation or the cancellation of telephone services, can be taken.

  • Patent number: 6897885
Abstract: An visualization technique to unclutter the display and ease navigation in a large highly connected hyperbolic space. The visualization technique can be implemented by using an invisible link processor to execute an invisible link program. Initially, the invisible link processor only shows or displays the primary links (e.g., the parent-child path) of each node. All other non-primary links (e.g., secondary links or non-tree links) are invisible (i.e., not displayed for the user). Then, upon user selection the invisible link processor automatically maps the secondary child and sub-nodes associated therewith to the current selected node. The invisible link processor automatically restores (i.e., returns the previously moved secondary child and related sub-nodes to the original location in the hyperbolic space) upon receipt of a reset command. The visualization technique employs a link table, a link history log, and placeholders to check relationships among nodes including cyclic conditions.
