Then, a homogenous area and an edge area of the image are determined according to pixel differences of the pixels Y2i,2j in comparing with a threshold. Then, the pixels Y2i,2j belonging to the homogenous area are interpolated by a first interpolating algorithm, while the pixels Y2i,2j belonging to the edge area are interpolated by a second interpolating algorithm.

    Abstract: A region-of-interest (ROI) video-coding method and apparatus based on fuzzy logic control for a video encoder is provided. Providing an image having a plurality of region-of-interest regions and a plurality of non-region-of-interest regions, the first step is to separate the region-of-interest regions and the non-region-of-interest regions from the image. Then by sending an input from the region-of-interest regions to a fuzzy logic control, in which the fuzzy logic control performs fuzzy manipulations that enhances the quality of the region-of-interest regions, and thereof the overall quality of an output image. The method and apparatus are particularly useful in videophone and videoconferencing.

    Abstract: The invention is directed to a face detection method. In the method, an image data in a YCbCr color space is received, wherein a Y component of the image data to analyze out a motion region and a CbCr component of the image to analyze out a skin color region. The motion region and the skin color region are combined to produce a face candidate. An eye detection process on the image is performed to detect out eye candidates. And then, an eye-pair verification process is performed to find an eye-pair candidate from the eye candidates, wherein the eye-pair candidate is also within a region of the face candidate.
