    Abstract: The present invention relates to an accumulating device for providing a buffer. The accumulating device includes a frame and a guide structure reciprocally movable in opposite first and second directions with respect to the frame. A continuous chain configured for conveying pieces of product is mounted on the guide structure. The accumulating device also includes a plurality of driven gears constructed and arranged to both rotate the chain about the guide structure and reciprocate the guide structure in the first and second directions relative to the frame. A buffer is generated when the guide structure is moved in the first direction. The buffer is cleared when the guide structure is moved in the second direction.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a hold-back device for use with a magazine of an article-handling apparatus. The hold-back device includes a frame defining a feed gap through which articles from the magazine are fed. A plurality of threaded members are threadingly mounted in threaded openings defined by the frame. The threaded members have distal ends adapted to extend into the feed gap to hold back the articles held by the magazine. By threading the threaded members in or out of the frame, the distal ends of the threaded members can be set to desired positions in the feed gap.

    Abstract: An apparatus which uses vacuum to singly feed pieces from a stack. The feeding apparatus has a plate supporting a bottom of the stack and defining a plurality of plate apertures. The plate is connected to a drive mechanism which moves the plate between rearward and forward positions. The plate apertures are in fluid communication with a first vacuum source which provides a vacuum to the plate apertures. When the drive mechanism moves the plate from the rearward to the forward position, the vacuum source provides a vacuum to the plate apertures for holding a bottom-most piece of the stack against the plate. As the bottom-most piece of the stack is moved forward, a metering member prevents other pieces of the stack from being moved along with the bottom-most piece.
