    Abstract: An inorganic platelet composition for use as thermal and/or electrical insulation and fire protection for electrochemical cells such as lithium ion cells. The inorganic platelet composition may be located on individual battery cells, within the interstitial spaces of adjacent battery cells and/or between modules of battery cells in a larger battery pack. The inorganic platelet composition prevents thermal runaway that may occur in one cell or modules of cells from propagating to adjacent or nearby cells or modules within the battery pack.
