Patent number: 10158438Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable storage media for broadcasting a local signal B that corresponds to a coverage hole in a remote signal B. The system includes a first transmitter at a first location and a second transmitter at the first location that transmits local signal B corresponding to remote signal B transmitted from a remote transmitter. The second transmitter broadcasts the local signal B to at least part of a coverage hole in a coverage area of remote signal B. Also disclosed is a method for consolidating allocated wireless spectrum. The method includes identifying a guard band in an allocated band of wireless spectrum, reassigning an existing channel occupying a portion of the allocated band of wireless spectrum to the guard band via selective single frequency network infill to yield a reassigned channel, and freeing the portion of the allocated band of wireless spectrum.Type: GrantFiled: June 20, 2016Date of Patent: December 18, 2018Assignee: AT&T MOBILITY II LLCInventor: Melvin Frerking

Patent number: 9167595Abstract: A duplex frequency is supplemented by providing one or more simplex frequencies and distributing a data load among them. In one aspect, a system can include a server containing a scheduler in communication with a communications device. The server initially communicates with the communications device using a duplex channel, determines when it is no longer optimal to use the single duplex channel, and distributes data among the duplex channel and one or more simplex channels. Before distributing the data, the server sends a schedule to the communications device via the duplex channel, so the communications device can determine which bits of data are coming through which channels at which times. A descheduler within the communications device receives the schedule and alerts the communications device to start receiving data on other simplex channels. The descheduler then puts the bits of data in order as they stream in across the duplex and simplex channels.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2012Date of Patent: October 20, 2015Assignee: AT&T MOBILITY II LLCInventors: Arthur Brisebois, Yung S. Publication number: 20150162995Abstract: A communications interface provides for communications between a wireless communication device and a hearing assistive device. The communications interface converts a signal, including an audio signal, received from the wireless communication device into a format recognizable by a hearing assistive device. The communications interface generates a communication signal including the audio signal based on the converted signal and transmits the communication signal to the hearing assistive device using a low power radio frequency transmission protocol. The hearing assistive device converts the communication signal received from the communications interface into a usable format, extracts an audible signal from the communication signal, and manipulates the extracted audible signal according to a criterion associated with a user of the hearing assistive device.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 11, 2014Publication date: June 11, 2015Inventors: Melvin Frerking, George Hirvela

Patent number: 8610832Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems, methods, and computer-readable storage media for broadcasting signals. The system includes a supplemental antenna at a first location co-located with a main antenna transmitting a main signal. The supplemental antenna is physically separate from a main antenna at the same location and transmits a supplementary signal adjacent to the main signal which matches or corresponds to a remote signal transmitted from an antenna at a remote location. The system transmits the supplemental signal at sufficient power to overcome interference in a coverage hole of the remote signal caused by the main signal. A supplemental antenna co-located with the main antenna can transmit the supplemental signal. The system can receive a supplemental signal that matches a remote signal, pass the supplemental signal through a same power amplifier and filter as a local main signal, and broadcast via an antenna both the main signal and the supplemental signal.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 2009Date of Patent: December 17, 2013Assignee: AT&T Mobility II, LLCInventor: Melvin Frerking

Patent number: 8595306Abstract: System(s) and method(s) are provided for management of content(s) directed to a wireless digital media frame (WDMF). Management is facilitated by a service provided by a mobile network platform. A service subscription allows a subscriber to establish femto cell coverage in a location that host a subscribed WDMF(s); determine content(s) delivery preferences; and extend the service to a group of auxiliary subscribers. Various sources of content such as a mobile station, a non-mobile device, or a content server associated with a service platform (e.g., an internet service provider) can deliver content(s) and signaling. Integrity of content(s) and signaling is provided through access protocol(s) that exploits credentials associated with a source of content. Content(s) are managed through a content interface that conveys available content(s) in a source of content and an intended WDMF. Various alarm(s) can be delivered to a WDMF as a part of the content management service.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 2012Date of Patent: November 26, 2013Assignee: AT&T Mobility II LLCInventors: George Hirvela, Melvin Frerking, Thomas Keathley

Patent number: 8265710Abstract: A communications interface provides for communication between a wireless communication device (WCD) and a hearing assistive device (HAD). In an exemplary embodiment the communications interface includes a communications module to receive an audio signal from the WCD. The communications interface transmits the audio signal to the HAD using a Low Power Radio Frequency (RF) transmitter. The HAD receives the Low Power RF signal and provides a voice signal to the HAD user via a speaker. In some embodiments, the HAD includes a microphone and a transmitter. The HAD transmits a voice signal generated by the microphone to the communications interface. Exemplary methods for using the WCD and the HAD are also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 2009Date of Patent: September 11, 2012Assignee: AT&T Mobility II LLCInventors: Melvin Frerking, George Hirvela

Patent number: 7831055Abstract: An electronic device includes a receiver, a processor, and a presence activation sensor configured to receive a signal from a user. The user signal includes a user specific performance parameter, or the user specific performance parameter may be accessed from a memory by the processor in response to the user signal. In non-enhanced mode operation, the device receives standard signals and outputs them according to standard performance parameters. In enhanced mode operation the device receives standard signals, as well as a user signal which triggers the processor to manipulate the standard signals to output unique signals according to the user specific performance parameters.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 2005Date of Patent: November 9, 2010Assignee: AT&T Mobility II LLCInventors: Melvin Frerking, George Hirvela
