Abstract: An ultrasound guidance system and method include an augmented reality device, a camera, and a computing system. The computing system receives a user input from a user including a target internal anatomical structure of the patient. The computing system then processes image data of surface anatomy of the patient captured by the camera. The computing system processes the image data to identify surface anatomical structures to locate underlying internal anatomy of the patient. The computing system uses this information to determine a probe location on a surface of the patient in which an ultrasound probe is capable of imaging the target internal anatomical structure of the patient when placed against the surface. The computing system then generates output data for a display of the augmented reality device including a target indicia that overlays an image of the patient on the display at the probe location.
