A carbon nanotube film structure comprising a plurality of carbon nanotubes and an oxidizing solution formed by an oxidizing agent and hydrogen peroxide is provided. The carbon nanotube film structure is soaked in the oxidizing solution to form a preform. Finally, the carbon nanotube sponge is obtained by freeze-drying the preform under vacuum condition. The present disclosure also relates to a carbon nanotube sponge obtained by above method.
