  • Publication number: 20160262184
Abstract: A wireless device may receive a dedicated protocol interval (DPI) announcement (DPIA) frame, and then determine, based on the DPIA frame, a scheduled time and a dedicated protocol for the DPI. The wireless device may transmit one or more dedicated clear-to-send (CTS) frames requesting legacy stations to defer from contending for medium access during the DPI. Then, the wireless device may transmit data, using the dedicated protocol, to another device during the DPI.

  • Patent number: 9438384
Abstract: One feature provides for a method operational at an access point in communication with a destination station where the access point receives a stream of data including at least one media access control protocol data unit (MPDU) having a Differentiated Services Code Point (DSCP) field value, provides a retransmission policy to the MPDU based on the DSCP field value, and transmits the MPDU to the destination station via a wireless local area network. The stream of data may include a stream of video data having a layered modulation scheme, where the DSCP field value identifies at least one layer of the layered modulation scheme. The access point may use deep packet inspection to retrieve the DSCP value from the MPDU. In this fashion, multiple retransmission policies may be provided for a single data stream by mapping DSCP field values to MPDU bit fields, such as the Traffic Identifier field.

  • Publication number: 20160197700
Abstract: Techniques for supporting communication over an extended range in a wireless network are disclosed. In one aspect, a station sends multiple messages of a given type for different operating modes. These messages can be detected by stations with different capabilities, which may avoid collisions between stations. In one design, a first station receives a Request-to-Send (RTS) message from a second station having data to send. The first station sends a first Clear-to-Send (CTS) message and also a second CTS message in response to the RTS message. The second CTS message has an extended range as compared to the first CTS message. The first station thereafter (i) receives data sent by the second station in response to the second CTS message and (ii) sends an acknowledgement having an extended range.
