Abstract: This invention relates to topical drug delivery formulations, formulated to carry at least one drug, be applied to an open wound, and enable systemic absorption of the at least one drug via the open wound to provide a systemic therapeutic effect for a predetermined period of time. In some embodiments, the invention concerns a topical drug delivery composition comprising a rapid onset local anaesthetic agent and/or an analgesic agent, and a drug delivery formulation, for providing both local and systemic anaesthesia and/or analgesia.

Abstract: A method of treating a subject having a disease caused by a pathogen, preferably an acid-labile pathogen, said method comprising the step of applying to the subject a therapeutically effect amount of a topical composition having biocidal properties or both pain-relieving and biocidal properties. The composition can be used to treat or control bacterial, viral, fungal or infestational pathogens, and related diseases. The disease can be foot and mouth disease (FMD) or scabby mouth (orf), caused by an acid-labile virus. The topical composition can be used to treat hoof rot/footrot/foot abscess and viral lesions.

Abstract: A pain relieving aerosol spray (pain relieving and pain preventing aerosol spray) comprising a pain relieving composition and at least one refrigerant, wherein the pain relieving aerosol spray is capable of providing rapid onset local anaesthesia of intact skin and/or a wound of a subject to which it is applied and further pain relief due to the pain relieving composition remaining on the wound of the subject. The pain relieving composition comprises a liquid gel matrix that contains at least one anaesthetic agent, a vasoconstrictor, and an antiseptic agent. The spray can be used for a surgical procedure or animal husbandry procedure, such as castration or branding, or treating a burn or wound.

Abstract: A method for providing anesthesia to a subject having a wound, such as a laceration, a surgical incision, an ulcer, an abrasion or a burn, said method comprising the step of applying topically to the wound a composition comprising: at least one local anesthetic agent; a hydrophilic or hydroalcoholic gelling agent; an antiseptic agent; a vasoconstrictor; and a detectable marker such as a food dye, wherein when the composition is topically applied to the wound of the subject the presence of the anesthetic agent on the subject is indicated by the detectable marker. The method has been developed primarily for anaesthetizing open wounds of animals, particularly those caused by husbandry procedures.
