  • Publication number: 20140025687
Abstract: A report analyzing system (1) is described. A text processing unit (2) analyzes a text portion (13, 23, 45) of a report. The text portion is in a natural language. The processing unit identifies a concept (41, 42, 43, 44) in the text portion, to obtain a set of identified concepts. A concept ranking unit (3) ranks the concepts (41, 42, 43, 44) of the set of identified concepts based on a ranking criterion, to obtain a ranking. A concept selector (4) selects at least one concept of the set of identified concepts based on the ranking, to obtain at least one selected concept. An associating unit (5) associates a visual representation (31, 32, 33, 34) with the report based on the at least one selected concept. The selected concept may belong to an ontology, e.g. a medical ontology.

Abstract: Described herein are systems and methods for intelligently combining medical findings received across different modalities. The system comprises an extraction module extracting contextual information from an image of an area of interest including annotations, a feature selection module building a current feature vector using the extracted contextual information and the annotations, and a referencing engine computing a similarity score between the current feature vector and a prior feature vector of a prior image. The method comprises extracting contextual information from an image of an area of interest including annotations, building a current feature vector using the extracted contextual information and the annotations, and computing a similarity score between the current feature vector and a prior feature vector of a prior image.

  • Publication number: 20130275124
Abstract: The invention relates to a system (SYS) for automatically extracting a location of an abnormality with respect to an anatomical structure from a report, the system comprising a tokenizer (U10) for tokenizing the report or a part of it, thereby producing a plurality of tokens, and an analyzer (U20) for identifying a semantic structure comprising identified tokens of the plurality of tokens, describing the location of the abnormality with respect to the anatomical structure. Optionally, the system further comprises a mapper (U30) for annotating a diagram representing the anatomical structure, based on the identified semantic structure describing the location of the abnormality with respect to the anatomical structure. Using the system, the location of the abnormality with respect to the anatomical structure can be extracted from each report of the plurality of reports produced over the period of time. The extracted locations may be used by a clinician for diagnostic purposes.

  • Publication number: 20120203575
Abstract: A medical information system (170) comprising a validator (140) configured to validate image findings, which are generated based on an image of anatomical structures produced by an imaging apparatus (110), in a first report with at least one of a set of predefined templates or processed data generated based on the set of predefined templates, and an augmenter (160) configured to augment the first report with information from a second report that includes medical findings.

  • Publication number: 20120191720
Abstract: The invention relates to a system (100) for identifying a document of a plurality of documents, based on a multidimensional image, the system (100) comprising an object unit (110) for identifying an object represented in the multidimensional image, based on a user input indicating a region of the multidimensional image, and further based on a model for modeling the object, determined by segmentation of the indicated region of the multidimensional image; a keyword unit (120) for identifying a keyword of a plurality of keywords, related to the identified object, based on an annotation of the model for modeling the object; and a document unit (130) for identifying the document of the plurality of documents, based on the identified keyword. Thus, the system advantageously facilitates a user's access to documents comprising information of interest based on a viewed multidimensional image. The document may be identified by its name or, preferably, by a link to the document.

  • Publication number: 20120098838
Abstract: A system for generating a view of a medical image comprises an input (1) for receiving information indicative of a suspected diagnosis of a patient. An input (2) for receiving a medical image of the patient. A mapper (3) for mapping the suspected diagnosis of the patient to a set of viewing parameters for viewing the medical image. A view generator (8) for providing a view of the medical image in accordance with the set of viewing parameters. A database (4) for mapping a suspected diagnosis into a set of generic viewing parameters. A transformer (5) for transforming the set of generic viewing parameters into a set of image-specific viewing parameters based on content of the medical image.

  • Publication number: 20120036160
Abstract: Extensive databases of well-annotated reports are important knowledge sources in medical workflows, such as in radiology. These are typically accessed by the healthcare professional looking for reports similar to a current case being evaluated. However, filling and maintaining such databases requires considerable effort. A system is provided for storing a candidate report, comprising a searcher configured to retrieve one or more queries from a query database; to retrieve the candidate report from a user input; to execute the one or more queries on the candidate report to determine the relevance of the candidate report, and to store the candidate report in the report database if the relevance exceeds a predetermined value. The invention provides a check, prior to storing, to evaluate whether a candidate report would actually be a worthwhile addition to the database. If not, it is by default not added.

  • Publication number: 20120035963
Abstract: When generating radiology reports, image findings and/or clinical information is automatically mapped to an appropriate standardized structured report template. The report template contains placeholders for information such as case-specific images and measureable values, and the placeholders are filled in by either the radiologist or by automatic procedures such as image processing algorithms, text extraction algorithms, or the like. In this manner, the radiologist is assisted in effectively generating a reader-independent high-quality diagnostic report.

  • Publication number: 20110222747
Abstract: The invention relates to a system (100) for classifying image data on the basis of a model for adapting to an object in the image data, the system comprising a segmentation unit (110) for segmenting the image data by adapting the model to the object in the image data and a classification unit (120) for assigning a class to the image data on the basis of the model adapted to the object in the image data, thereby classifying the image data, wherein the classification unit (120) comprises an attribute unit (122) for computing a value of an attribute of the model on the basis of the model adapted to the object in the image data, and wherein the assigned class is based on the computed value of the attribute. Thus, the system (100) of the invention is capable of classifying the image data without any user input. All inputs required for classifying the image data 10 constitute a model for adapting to an object in the image data.
