In one embodiment, the desalter system includes a pressure vessel, a plurality of electrodes disposed in the pressure vessel, and a control unit. The control unit is in communication with the plurality of electrodes, and may be configured to initiate electrical agitation and mechanical agitation to the oil/water mixture inside the pressure vessel in response to detecting an increased load in the plurality of electrodes due to the level of the oil/water interface within the pressure vessel.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method of attenuating side effects caused by aminoglycosides by administering aminoguanidine either before or during the treatment with the aminoglycoside. The invention also provides compositions and kits for use in the treatment of infections that use aminoglycosides that can cause side effects such as nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity.
