  • Patent number: 5957473
Abstract: A suspension bicycle includes swing arms, control arms and control links which are connected pivotably to an otherwise rigid frame to form a trapezoidal arrangement configured with a shock absorber forward of the seat riser tube to permit absorption of energy imparted to the bicycle by substantially vertical forces such as caused by shocks while transmitting to the rear wheels without significant loss energy imparted to the bicycle by substantially forward such as pedaling.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: September 28, 1999
Assignee: Schwinn Cycling & Fitness Inc.
    Inventor: Mert Lawwill
  • Patent number: 5429380
Abstract: An improved front suspension for a bicycle includes lower swing arms, upper swing arms and hub plates connected to the front forks in a substantially rhomboidal arrangement, and communicating with a shock absorber through a stabilizer tube, wherein the geometries of the trapezoid are balanced to provide substantially the same trail through the travel of the suspension.

  • Patent number: 5121937
Abstract: A suspension bicycle includes swing arms, control arms and hub plates connected to the seat riser tube of the frame in a trapezoidal arrangement balanced to offset forces applied to the rear wheel by the chain to prevent absorption of pedaling energy by the suspension system while still permitting the suspension system to be responsive to changes in road conditions.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 13, 1990
Date of Patent: June 16, 1992

  • Patent number: 4789174
Abstract: A suspension bicycle is disclosed in which a rear suspension includes swing arms, control arms, and hub plates connected to the seat riser tube of the frame in a trapezoidal arrangement. The swing arms, control arms, and hub plates are configured to balance the forces applied to the rear wheel by the chain during pedaling so as to prevent energy absorbing movement of the rear suspension as the result of such pedaling. A shock absorber is also connected to the swing arms to absorb shocks during riding. The suspension of the present invention also is configured to provide improved traction during pedaling uphill or over uneven surfaces.
