  • Patent number: 6419526
Abstract: A multi-port modular jack including an outer housing part, inner housing parts arranged in the outer housing part to define plug-receiving receptacles receivable of mating plugs, and an optional shield surrounding the jack. The outer housing part having a top wall, a bottom wall and a front face having a mid-portion arranged substantially parallel to and between the top and bottom walls. The front face defines a first row of apertures between the mid-portion and the top wall and a second row of apertures between the mid-portion and the bottom wall. Each aperture in the first row has a plane of symmetry offset in relation to a plane of symmetry of each aperture in the second row such that only a portion of each aperture in the first row is directly opposite the opposed apertures in the second row. Vents are formed in the outer housing part to allow for the passage of air through the jack.

  • Patent number: 6250964
Abstract: A metallic shield for a jack, and a method for joining a shield to a jack using staking posts, comprising a plurality of planar panels, each for overlying an outer surface of a respective outer wall of the jack, a front one of the panels including at least one aperture for allowing passage of a plug therethrough. At least one of the panels has at least one cantilevered spring beam and at least one bifurcated grounding tab connected to each of the at least one spring beam. A post for mounting the jack is formed from the metallic shield material.

  • Patent number: 5364294
Abstract: An electrical device for surface mounting on a circuit board comprises a housing and a plurality of contacts wherein the distance between the region at which the pad-engaging portion of each contact engages its respective pad, and the region of the fulcrum about which the contact deflects, is maximized to reduce the magnitude of the biasing force resulting from the deflection. An improved mounting component for the device comprises a post having tangs that extend from its side which are deflected to allow the post to be inserted into the board opening and which skive into the sides of the opening to prevent the post from retraction therefrom. An improved positioning arrangement for the device comprises a pair of positioning posts having polygonal cross-sections, each having a maximum cross-sectional dimension in single, mutually orthogonal, directions.

  • Patent number: 5194014
Abstract: A cable ready connector comprises a housing including a conductor holding member and a plurality of contact terminals for effecting insulation displacement engagement with respective ones of the cable conductors. Each of the contact terminals includes at least first and second insulation displacement sections capable of engagement with conductors having diameters within first and second ranges respectively. The connector housing also comprises a load bar for holding portions of the conductors in two groups situated in spaced parallel planes, the conductors in one group being staggered with respect to the conductors of the other group.
