    Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method and apparatus for transmitting a multi-channel audio signal. The method includes determining whether an audio signal is a multi-channel audio signal; changing a format of a subframe if the received audio signal is a multi-channel audio signal as a result of the confirmation; inserting a channel identifier into an ancillary data region of the subframe of which the format is changed; and creating an audio bit stream including the ancillary data region into which the channel identifier is inserted.
