Abstract: An assembly (15) of a tool (16) and straight edge (27), with a cutting edge (38) extending beyond a member (17) of tool (16) which lies along straight edge (27). The member including cutting edge (38) is supported by member (17) and cuts excess wet cement from a supporting base (22) to form a surface with the cement. A T-bar (37) having a leg (39) is included in the member having cutting edge (38). Edge (38) removes a web 20 of excess fluent material as member (17) slides upwardly along straight edge (27). A distal end (55) of T-bar (37) removes a web (56) of excess material from an interior supporting base (22) in another application. A member (24) adjusts the cutting length of edge (38), being mounted along an edge (19) of tool (16), while a flange (27f) is included in straight edge (27 ) for providing a guide by which member (17) and cutting edge 38 shift uniformly upwardly to remove excess 20 of fluent material.

Abstract: A dampener for a lithographic press comprises a form roller, a metering roller, a reservoir of dampening solution lying above and between the form and metering rollers, and means for supplying solution to the reservoir. The amount of solution applied to the form roller is controlled by adjusting the pressure between the form and metering rollers, without appreciably affecting the pressure between the form roller and the plate cylinder. Excess moisture retained on the form roller and excess solution which collects between the plate cylinder and the form roller is continuously returned directly to the reservoir. The metering roller and the plate cylinder are driven by the press gear drive system, and the form roller is driven from frictional contact with the plate cylinder and the metering roller, to aid in retrofitting the dampener to existing presses. The dampener mechanism can also be used alternatively to supply water-based coating liquids to allow use of the press for a coating operation.

Abstract: A vacuum cleaner nozzle with a retractable brush having a plate carrying strips of bristles along the forward and rearward edge thereof and having leaf springs extending from one side and cam following members extending from the opposite side. A slide having camming members in engagement with the cam following members of the brush plate. The slide and brush plate are captured in a housing into which a conduit from the vacuum source extends through the housing and out of a sole plate, which is removably secured to the top plate and against which the brush plate leaf springs bear. Projections from the slide extend through the top of the housing and move the slide laterally in one direction to bring the brush through openings along the forward and rearward edges of the sole plate against the bias of the leaf springs to extend the brush. The projections move laterally in the opposite direction to permit the springs to retract the brush.
