  • Patent number: 9192723
Abstract: Methods, apparatuses, and systems are disclosed for reducing Medical Administered Errors, (MAE) in the administration of injectable medications to patients by using a syringe device that is designed, labeled, and calibrated to decrease the risk of such errors. The syringe may be designed for a specific medication, and labeled to indicate the name of the medication for which it was designed. The syringe is calibrated to deliver a specific amount of the medication that is the appropriate dosage for a patient of a particular weight or other feature, thereby making it unnecessary for the user to perform calculations to determine the correct dosage volume for the particular patient. The syringe may also be calibrated with additional measurement scales that enable the user to verify that the correct dosage.

  • Publication number: 20150231335
Abstract: A syringe having a needle concealment mechanism including a barrel having an internal fluid reservoir, a plunger received in the barrel and axially movable relative thereto, a measurement sleeve positioned around the barrel, a needle positioned at one end of the barrel, and a syringe collar positioned at an end of the barrel opposite the needle, the syringe collar including a lever having an inwardly-directed hook at one end thereof configured to engage within a slot of the measurement sleeve to prevent axial movement between the measurement sleeve and the barrel.

  • Publication number: 20150202373
Abstract: An injection device including a barrel having an internal medication reservoir, a plunger received within the barrel and axially movable relative thereto, a grip fixed to the plunger and axially overlapping a portion of the barrel, the grip configured to be locked relative to the barrel to prevent axial movement therebetween, a needle attached to one end of the barrel, and a needle guard configured to retract into the barrel in response to force against an injection site to unlock the grip from the barrel to permit relative axial movement therebetween.

  • Publication number: 20150196714
Abstract: A syringe including a barrel having an internal reservoir for containing a volume of medication, a plunger received within the barrel and axially movable relative thereto to change the volume of medication in the reservoir, and a dosage indicator movable with the plunger, the dosage indicator in contact with the barrel such that at least one of an audible alert and a tactile alert is produced upon movement of the dosage indicator relative to the barrel.

  • Publication number: 20150073354
Abstract: A measurement sleeve adapted for use with a medication syringe including an optically transparent body defining an axial passageway therethrough for receiving a barrel of the medication syringe therein, at least one lateral face through which the barrel is visible when the barrel is within the axial passageway, measurement indicia marked on the at least one lateral face along a portion of the length of the axial passageway, and a barrel lock at one end of the body configured to lock the barrel to the body to prevent relative axial movement therebetween.

  • Publication number: 20140207079
Abstract: A syringe including a barrel having an internal reservoir for containing a volume of medication, a plunger received within the barrel and axially moveable relative thereto to change the volume of the medication in the reservoir, a first set of indicia marked on the barrel indicating volumetric dosage of the medication calibrated based on a predetermined patient characteristic, and a second set of indicia marked on the barrel having a correlation with the first set of indicia, the second set of indicia indicating volumetric dosage of the medication calibrated based on a medication unit of measurement. A kit including a syringe and a pre-filled medication container calibrated based on a patient characteristic.

  • Publication number: 20140114275
Abstract: Methods, apparatuses, kits and systems are disclosed that allow a transfer of medication from a manufacturer's vial, ampoule or other container through a closed system transfer to an intravenous apparatus and into a patient, while reducing additional steps, procedures, components required for the same transfer procedure to reduce sources of human error and medical administered errors.
